Revell Do 27: funny mix and match of sprues

Hi guys,

I just got a Do 27 for a dozen of euros. I had a look at the kit and was quite positively surprised by the contents. Nonetheless, I was completely puzzled when I looked at the sprues before checking the instructions. Indeed, I found a copy of one sprue from the... F-14 Tomcat!

Revell added that full sprue just to use the front tires on the Dornier wheels!

At last, this gives me some alternate parts for my Tomcat kits!

Yes, you get the seats, nose pod and plastic tyres.

Is this anything to do with a recent Do 27 kit having the big safari wheels, which might have destroyed the original wheel moulds (?¿)

Thierry

this is a new "low cost" Revell choice to represent the main wheels

In the original release #4792 from 1989 (ouch!!) there were vinyls tires.

Nice kit.

OK ! This explains that! The original kit with the Bundesluftwaffe markings had vinyl/rubber tires and for whatever reason Revell decided to look after a plastic replacement option when they re-released the kit with the civilian markings (Seregenti safari version). Thanks for your help in solving that mysterious presence of Tomcat parts in a Dornier plane kit.
