Send me some good vibes guys....

Recommended Posts

I came down with stomach pain two days ago and now I’m two days in hospital awaiting my gallbladder removed. If I don’t get to your group build gallery entry in the next couple of days I’ll get there but they said my recovery might take a day or two. Bit bored in this place missing out on the ashes cricket too.

Good luck with that Brad.  Fortunately gallbladder surgery is usually pretty straightforward, and the recovery is generally pretty easy.  And once it’s gone it’s gone, and there’s a 100% guarantee you’ll never have a gallbladder attack ever again! :)

Get well soon!

Thanks guys. I just found the free wifi so at least I can still browse and do basic posting. Yeh doc said if I didn't get it out the stones would just come back.

Is there some reason they’re waiting on your surgery Brad?  Have they said if they can do it laparoscopically?

I think they are waiting on a surgeon that specialises in this type of thing. I had a meeting with the surgery team on today and he said he doesn't do this one so after sitting 22 hours in emergency which really sucked, they chucked me in a bed for at least tonight. They said it should be keyhole but if they need to make a small cut I might be in few days more.

My best wishes. I had my gallbladder removed 3 years ago, had 3 tiny holes in

my belly and was released on day 2 after surgery. You'll make it ok. Those are

my stones which were removed with the bladder ;)

Wow they said I had several and one has partially blocked the main bile duct so I turned a bit yellow. Just call me the Simpsons haha. I have to say I'm not too fond of being cut open, but the pain I was in was crippling.

About 75% of laparascopic gallbladder patients in the U.S. go home the same day as their surgery.  Overnight usually only happens if the surgery is late in the day, or if they have some other complicating medical problem.

Are you in a small/rural hospital?  Gallbladders are about the most basic kind of surgery that any general surgeon should be able to do.

Ummm it's not that small, maybe because it's the weekend there was less staff on, I'm not sure. It's in the suburbs of Melbourne, maybe as I went through emergency right from the gp..?

That’s strange.  Any suburban/metropolitan hospital should have a general surgeon on call 24/7.  Unless they got slammed with emergency surgeries or something.  Not like America where they’ve got 30 mass shooting victims a day to deal with.

Do they have you on IV antibiotics?  Sometimes if there’s a lot of inflammation or infection present, they’ll do that for a day or so before they take you to surgery.
