Spitfire on ground: ailerons always in neutral?

No offence at all. As a matter of fact, of all the aircraft the Spitfire cockpit may be the easiest to access. Try to make your way to the RAF Museum in Hendon. There they have a Spitfire Mk XVI and for a fee you can sit in the cockpit for up to 30 minutes while a staff member describes all the items in the cockpit and their function. :-) They have a schedule, so make sure you book it early. ;-)

Thanks Radu! As luck would have it, I will be in London in July and may have some time to do exactly as you suggest.
