I couldn't help but noticing the articles about the event: F-35 disappears from radar near Japan. Does that thing supposed to be on the radar? To stop it crashing into other aircraft? To keep an eye on its position for reviewing performance? Because it was carrying external ordnance? Because it was in mechanical trouble? Old Dog Posted April 11, 2019 Share Posted April 11, 2019 I would assume these aircraft are equipped with an IFF system so they can squawk an ID code to controllers in friendly airspace when needed.
