MRP are tops for Russia, in fact it is the best airbrush paint that you can get.  Laquer too.

I agree MRP is some of THE finest shooting airbrush paint I have ever shot, and having used Tamiya, Vellejo, (Model Air), PollyScale, Model Master, Mr Color,/Gunze Tamiyas acrylic lacquer, AK, Alclad and Humbrol thats saying something for me.

While the carrier in MRP is lacquer, the paint itself is acrylic (lets you use all those cool AKI enamel washes and effects) and to me performs very much like Tamiyas rattle can acrylic lacquers, only without all the mixing, thinning, decanting and degassing. They still shoot and smell like lacquer though.

AKAN makes both an acrylic and acrylic lacquer paints for Russian subjects. I use the acrylic lacquers extensively and they perform similarly to both MRP and Mr Color. Never used the acrylic paints. In the USA they are available from Linden Hill Imports. I've bought from them extensively, since AKAN has out of bottle matches for most Russian stuff. As an aside, I have some AKAN and MRP paints that are "supposed" to be the exact same color, but they don't match. I have some questions about MRP's color accuracy. I don't agree with the statement that MRP is the best airbrush paint you can get, but too each his own.

Check out the Hataka Red Line paint range for their Russian colours. I've asked around about these for my up-coming Su-27 build and people seem to rate them on their colours. But be warned they need a couple of coats to get the depth of colour you may need.

the hakata line looks nice but I was planning on a VVS bird and that is for  warsaw pact.  One problem is  knowing which colors to use the akan looks good but I may be better with the singles.  What thinner does it use modeling bob?  lacquer thinner mr color thinner I also have mr color  reducing thinner which goes with everything i have used so far

AKAN makes really good colors and paints.  Their line of paints comes in both acrylic or lacquer.  I've only used their acrylic and they spray very well, the only tricky part comes if you use their acrylics for fine detailing, 'mottling' work for fading/weathering, Luftwaffe WWII, etc. then you just need a q-tip with thinner on it to remove the paint that often dries on the tip (this doesn't happen so much if you're doing airbrushing on a larger area spraying a larger volume of paint.  Overall I think they're the best match for Russian subjects.  I've been using them on a massive Flanker diorama project in 1/32 with 3 flankers, an mi-8 hip, and some ground vehicles.
