Now since everything goes as expected, I am going to focus my attention to the second aircraft to bring her at the same level of progress With the nose gear bay in place but not attached yet. EricF Posted February 5, 2019 Author Share Posted February 5, 2019 Here is a pic of the wheels set from AMS that will replace the basic one we find in the kit. Special mention goes for the brake disc. I tried to insert the Avionics MB Mk5, version that we found on the Crusader in the mid sixties. If I'm right a retrofit program to instal the Mk7 started from 1968. This seat is beautiful even if I find it a bit oversized in hight. The Aires one is a Mk7 which is not appropriate for the period and it is undersized anyway. I have to remove additional 1 to 2 mm at the bottom and the compromise will be satisfactory to me to compensate for the hight. I usually use Humbrol Polish Steel that I don't polish at the end The color looks very realistic I sprayed acrilic colors highly diluted at 80%. Final effects are done with pigments. Honestly, these are not the good engine version for the type They should be nozzles of the J-57 p13 /p20 Here we have nozzles of the p8. Aires propose this only version. Building the late version from scratch would be a long process. So I accepted myself this deviation. As usual, all the karts had been washed with soapy water before painting. This is mandatory otherwise the paint will adhere even using airbrush. I used Tamiya flat white sprayed in successives sprays until obtaining a clean uniform white surface. For the varnish, my fav goes to the X-22 Wash is Tamiya brown panel line accent color used diluted. I show on the here below pics the depth of plastic to be removed for a good fitting of the Aires part. A black pencil mark shows the difference between two fuselages. The one without the wheel well is not corrected. Next pic, still dry fit for now with the F8-E (FN) above and and the F8-E below. I am going to try it on the TF-104G by Italeri which suffers from the same issue. Will take time and patience but looking at your effort, it seems worth it. Great Franken-cockpit also by the way! EricF Posted February 15, 2019 Author Share Posted February 15, 2019 To start the week end the second aircraft is at the same level of progress regarding the cockpit. The ejection rails are removed to be repositioned. The space in between is too narrow as it is. All the details ahaed of the LOX bottle have been removed. They are not reflecting the doc. In fact, the surface is a little bit bending down. This is why we can see grey putty. Otherwise, another Crusader is on the way. I'm waiting for an order with new exhaust representing the J-57 P20 to correct my mistake for the F-8E and the F-8E (FN) which are currently in progress, and resin kits (wheel bay and cockpit) for a RF-8G.
