"The Star of Africa" - Hans-Joachim Marseille's Do-335 A-2/Trop - Yellow 14 - FINISHED!

I got all the markings on, albeit not on the first try. The Hakenkreuz ended up being white with a black outline at first, so had to completely re-shoot that. As you will see, I also have to re-shoot the crossed swords in the victory crest on the starboard side tail, as the swords were exceptionally small, and proved to be at the cutting/size limits of the Silhouette cutter.

Not perfect, but not too shabby. Needs some touch-ups, but the basic paint is done:

Port side tail is good:

Starboard side needs to have the swords re-shot, but otherwise OK:

Balkenkreuz on the underside also turned out very well, with only a very minor touch-up of the black on the port wing:

Next up, Ill re-spray the white on the starboard side swords, then will get started on the washes and weathering. YAY!

Cheers til next time,

Did you do the unit marking with masks, too?

Everything except the JG 27 Gruppe 1 insignia are in paint.

I did have a backup plan, as I created the logo in the Silhouette program, if anyone with a Silhouette printer wants to try it:

Its drawn huge, and can be scaled down to size as normal, but the JG 27 crest is still pretty small in 32nd, and i believe its at the limit of the printers capabilities.

Ive got some progress completed but have some stuff to do tonight before work tomorrow, so will try to post some pics tomorrow.

Is that the program that comes with the printer? I really need to take my Silhouette printer out of the box and take a look at it. B)

Yikes man! IMHO, it's the best thing to happen to modeling in decades. No need hunt around for decals for that scheme you want.....just make it yourself!

An eye-catching combination of aircraft and scheme!  Can't wait to see the weathering on this one!  The masked markings turned out great, especially the victory markings.  I'm sure it'll be easy to touch up the swords on that starboard side.  I agree about the usefulness of the Silhouette cutter... great tool to have!

Thanks boys. Been having a touch of drama at the homestead, so have been having to make some "husbandly" type efforts at home to try to quell it. I think I have straightened most of it out, and the major drama seems to have passed so Im going to be striving for more work on the big push/puller today and this weekend.

Ive got some brown Tamiya "panel line accent" color applied to the model a few days ago, but have not taken any pics yet, as I havnt fully finished wiping it down withe the wind flow direction yet, as it still seems a bit dirty.

I also took a 6000 grit finishing cloth, and removed some of the paint on the left wing root, where most of the foot traffic likely would have been, but have to wait until after the flat coat is applied to add some very minor chipping.

Pics soon, and thanks for looking in on me.

Thanks again all......

Just a start on the weathering with some Tamiya panel line accent, then some MIG engine wash aft of the engines, forward wing roots and elevators/rudder. Also started some wear and fading along the port wing root where the crew would have been traversing.

As you can see, I also got both sand filters installed as well. The bloody things fit like they were made for it. Guessed right on the set up of those luckily.

Much more to come....
