Bruce_Crosby
Sorry Guys, I hadn't uploaded some photos and the last one, with the SWPA test, isn't the final result. I managed to screw up the print setting on the first run of decals and they were too small. so here's the decals at the right size. Bruce_Crosby
Hi Guys, After a short break I dragged my backside onto the Frank again. I drew up masks in AutoCAD and cut them on the silhouette using Oramask 810 as the medium. Some paint got ripped while unmasking, about par for the course. Here goes: Masking the port fuselage: Untitled by Bruce Crosby, on Flickr Port wing with the outer mask in place and blue paint applied with Infinity 0.15. The paint is Mission Models. Untitled by Bruce Crosby, on Flickr Blue on the fuselage: Untitled by Bruce Crosby, on Flickr Some white on something or other! Untitled by Bruce Crosby, on Flickr Port wing marking painted and unmasked. Notice the chipped paint. Untitled by Bruce Crosby, on Flickr And the underside. Nothing serious really. LSP_Kevin
Good save, Bruce! Masks are great for that painted-on look, but aren't without their own issues! Kev
Bruce_Crosby
Hi Guys, This morning's work on the Frank has ben applying Flory Weathering Wash over the model, section by section. I've used grime all over the airframe with Grey on the nose anti-dazzle paint. I think Black would have been too stark and I found the Grey blended into the metallics too much. Here's the starboard wing top slathered with wash: Untitled by Bruce Crosby, on Flickr Now with the wash removed with a damp wad of kitchen paper: Untitled by Bruce Crosby, on Flickr The port tailplane: Untitled by Bruce Crosby, on Flickr Underwing detail: Untitled by Bruce Crosby, on Flickr The other side: Untitled by Bruce Crosby, on Flickr Now the fuselage! Bruce_Crosby
Hi Guys, Some more progress on the Frank. I couldn't make my mind up about the colour of the spinner and tried red first, looked beautiful but not right. So its been repainted in a few shades of metal, once again all Mission Models. The reference photos show the guns in place for load and trim I suppose, but the gun sight isn't fitted, so that's how I'll finish the model eventually. Bruce_Crosby
Hi Guys, A final round up of construction and painting photos of the Frank. I had a real hard look at every photo I could find of S17 and came to the conclusion that a US radio had been fitted during testing and the aerial mast and wiring had been changed for one from P-51D or similar late US fighter. It's the blade type which actually has the cable inside the mast, so no external aerial wires. I robbed one from the Revell kit that I'm trying to chop back to a B/C featured elsewhere on these pages.
