Gazzas
HI Everyone, Hot on the heels of my Tamiya Panther, I've moved on to one of Meng's 1/48 Me-410 offerings. There are three versions available, one is a bomber, whilst the other two are bomber busters... one of which carries a 50mm cannon. Here is the box art: For me, this is a completely new air-frame. I've never built a Me-410 before, so it's fun to deal with new shapes and learn details that I haven't been rehashing for years. The kit has known inaccuracies, and I'm not going to put too much effort into fixing them. If I can do it with a few swipes of sand paper, I'll do it. But otherwise I'm staying OOB. The kit has nice PE belts but sadly no IP decals. Here are some progress shots: After Painting the cockpit a scale-lightened version of RLM 66, I used a wet pallet and acrylic tube paints to do the details. This gave me a lot of quick flexibility in colors without having to open and close bottles of paint. I learned the wet pallet technique at my clubs meeting last weekend. I add-libbed some of the colors if I couldn't see them in any of the available photos. Next up is closing the fuselage. Thanks for looking! Gaz Edited November 2, 2018 by Gazzas new update D.B. Hardcore
I like your cockpit. A few scratches perhaps, as you say, but smaller scale means less visible wear, right? One of these is in my stash too. And, now that I think of it, I got a primed hobbyboss in 1/72 waiting for me to finish it. Hm. Gazzas

The past two weeks allowed me to complete the Panther as well as tuck into this one. There was a third project, but that one has been moved to the SOD as the original filler doesn't like to hold on to fillers placed over it... long, painful story. I've got some surgery to do now as the Oleos are fully extended and I intend to show a plane ready for action and the spinners are a little stubby, so I need to lengthen them. I've already puttied the tires and am working on feathering in the bulges. Gaz

So far it's turning out to be a nice kit though I've had to close up both wings and fuselage in stages as I didn't want to strain the glue joints before they had dried. Gazzas
Hi everyone, I'm loving taking time off work for modelling. I got the engines in yesterday. There are no locator pins for the engines. They sit on a couple of raised ridges, but I wasn't sure of their placement. One thing I really hate is when I go to put on the spinner and it's not aligned properly. Thanks for looking! Shawn M
cool build! never knew about the extra canon pack in the bay, thats some punch! Gazzas
Gazzas
Thanks Shawn, The 410 could carry a lot of forward firepower, but the pilots hated every bit of added weight, I've read. Especially the 50mm cannon. There were also versions with 30mm cannon in the bomb bay. Gaz Shawn M

Rick Griewski
Thanks Gaz. Very nice build. The Me-410 is one of my favorite twin engine ac (I am quite the fanatic actually). So I am always interested in new kit showing up. This one looks to be a good kit. Rick Gazzas
Gazzas
Thanks Rick! I like twin engined fighters a lot, too. I have a Dragon 110D-1 I'm going to convert into a D-2 (hate the dackelbauch), and a Revell 110G-2 Also waiting in my stash. The kit is nice, and fit has been good, but a complex canopy assembly lurks in my future. I don't know if the canopies hatches will fit well closed, so I'm steeling myself for an open canopy. Just to give you an idea, the canopy is seven separate pieces, with a molded on roll-cage structure. Gaz
Rick Griewski
My opinion is that the vac canopy was the doom the Scratchbuilders 410 kit. The glazing is complicated enough on the real ac. The second version of the kit and s very good. Mine is stuck on the canopy. One day for sure. Gazzas
Gazzas
I don't like working with vac form. I'd hate to have to resort to it on any kit, though I have in the past.
