Hi Flounder_al,

Thank you!  I'm enjoying the challenges of the new airframe, so it's a nice journey of discovery.  I didn't know there was a Hasegawa version, too.   Hopefully when you build yours, I'll get to see em'.

It's basically the Revell / Pro-Modeller kit built under licence by Hasegawa. Unfortunately i cannot read Japanese so cannot say which variant it is. It gives a callout of ZG1 and ZG76 for the squadrons but other then that i'm stuck. I'll just use the Pro-Modeller instructions for anything i'm not sure on.

Hi all,

A lot of effort the last two days to get her together:

The underwing rockets turned out to be a lot of work and still need some loving.

With the Oleos shortened, it reduces the angle AoA quite a bit.  She has big balloon tires, though.

Now I'm debating...  Attach the canopy before or after painting...  What do you think?

Thanks for looking!

I install canopies and paint them with the rest of the airframe as a matter of course. It gives me the opportunity to blend them in if they don't fit well, and make sure all the colours match, etc. The downside is that if you have a sliding or opening portion that you need to leave off, it makes masking the cockpit a little tricky!

Great work so far, mate.

I find that tacking said sliding or opening portion on with liquid masking stuff works just fine.

Gazzas, great Hornisse, coming along nicely.

You don't find that the masking agent spills over on to the frames you're trying to paint?

Gaz,

Awesome build,   your build inspired me to get a 410, but I ended up finding a really good deal on two Trump BF110's (D-3 and C-7).  As I study your build I cant help but notice your attention to detail and cleanliness.  Your clean table and clean build makes me wonder if you are a true modeller.  All "real" modellers have a mess about and stains a plenty.  Very suspicious :hmmm:!!     I think I better give my area a going over....

All jokes aside, I am really enjoying your additions to the build.  Until now this plane had never been on my radar.  Now its on the must do list.

Your cockpit is very clean.  I very much like what you did with the RLM-066.   What was your scale color correction?

Looking at your tires I think I see putty added to replicate a weighted tire.  Can you please tell me what you did there?

The fit of the wings seems very, very nice as I see no gaps in the seems.  Any secrets there? Or is the model well done in that regard?

I appreciate you sharing as I am learning a bit and enjoying the build.  I look forward to your finished product.

Hi Sapper,

Thanks for the kindnesses.  I'm glad to be inspirational.  I hope you enjoy those 110's.

Some of the photos weren't taken on my bench.  Some were, and I had to clear my bench twice yesterday just to find some fiddly bits.  Because the top of my bench is plywood, I can sand it off periodically.

For the RLM 66 I used Tamiya XF-63 60% with 40% Tamiya flat white.

For the tires I just added putty on the sides, and then sanded as much as I could to make the bulging and flat spot look natural.

The plane has a hefty dihedral to the wings, so while as the glue was drying I put the wings on equal sized leggos and then measured the distance from each wingtip to tabletop to be sure it was even.  If you look at the photo below you'll be able to see where I put white card to fill gaps:

I've learned a lot from reading build logs at this and other sites.  And there are a lot of guys here who'll answer your questions within a few hours of posting.

I'll be looking forward to your next build!

That's not a problem I've had so far, although I'm not sure whether that is because of taking enough care, or just luck. :)

HI Everyone,

A lot of time on little things as I try to prepare for paint.  I have only small parts left to attach to the fuselage.  But before I can add them, I need to get the canopy in place.  Here are some progress photos.

Fitting the canopy pieces was a couple hours worth of gentle poking and prodding interspersed with small applications of cement.

Dryfitting the hatches has forced me to build hatches-open.

I've kept my options open regarding the centering of the prop spinners.

44517134_533898740410205_386338071262317

I could only think of one way to thicken the prop shafts uniformly without using tape.

44526588_533898580410221_954118270317756

And finally some wheel work.

Thank you for looking!

Thank you, Alan!

,

I'm no fan of resin myself, but I don't think there'll ever be enough draw to see a large scale version in plastic unless Peter Jackson has an unspoken love of the thing.
