After having to send off to get some engine parts for the F7F made, I got a bit bogged down in having to deal with all the engine stuff. Then, knowing Id have to do a full clean of the bench on the Tigercat side as the next step to come is the very major step of the nacelles and MGL, I got a big of my modeling MoJo sapped, so I turned back to my anything goes any way I want build of the Speeder bike + Scout trooper build. I actually got all the camo decals on and finished up over all the trooper. They went on fairly well, but ended up far, far FAR from perfect as there are a lot of mistakes and mess ups, wrinkles, ect, ect, but I dont really care, as Im using this build as a MoJo builder, and it will never see completion, serving only to feel the freedom of building something any way I want. I didnt really get the hang of the CrossDelta camo decals until the end, but they all came out satisfactory enough save some not too noticeable wrinkles on the edges of some of the hardest things to cover in decals like the shoulder covers, top of the troopers head, and his shoes. I started off by applying a matt coat to the troopers NATO black parts, as I thought the semi-gloss sheen of the MRP NATO black didnt look right. No pics of it, but I put a rusty brown wash (witch turned out excellent looking IMHO) after I took pics of the parts after the flat coat was applied: I masked off the camo parts on the troopers calves with some de-tacked masking tape. The camo parts surrounding the troopers right calf, was difficult but in the end was done using 3 strips of camo to complete after taking some masking tape templates: The overall picture of how the individual camo parts turned out. The macro lens here is NOT kind! They look way WAY better in person w/the Mk 1 eyball IMHO: I also got the rest of the other auxiliary parts that were white on the normal trooper that are now dark forest green on mine, such as his angles, and all parts for the two front two lower pouches: MORE......................... I stirred up a mixture of rust wash and landing gear enamel wash from AKI, and put it all over everything including the decaled parts to highlight things and grunge up the trooper, as I felt a soldier in combat on a dirty, muddy, wet planet would be suitably dirty, and not shiny in any way. Besides the obvious wrinkles in the decaled parts that got highlighted even more after the wash, show up well unfortunately under the merciless eye of the macro lens. If you are looking at him in IRL, he looks much more acceptable. However, overall, Im very happy w/how he turned out: Ive still got some more weathering to do to the trooper, including some mud for his feet, and some other touch ups to his lower legs where most of the dirt would probably accumulate on a wet and muddy planet. I also still have to add the very few decals to him, including one or two on his head and lower pouches. Ill add those soon, probably while some of the speeder bike parts are drying. After taking some pics of the finished trooper, Ive gotten a start on the speeder bike. Nothing picture worthy yet, but Ill probably continue on with the the speeder bike until completion, since the F7F is a very long term build and is not going anywhere, but the side of the bench Im currently working the speeder bike on is earmarked for a future "Multi-Engined" GB entry of a what-if Afrika Corps Do-335. . Out2gtcha Posted October 18, 2018 Author Share Posted October 18, 2018 Thanks Carl, I found out that in 1/12th scale, the sizes of the parts that have to be covered were large enough that it was really difficult to get the decals to stretch over some parts. There are a TON of repair/patch panels I had to add to cover areas that got stretched too thin and turned white. Whilst you may not be completely happy with it, I'm loving this.. such a refreshing change from the standard.. and makes so much more sense for a trooper in a woodland scene. I too am loving the build simply based on the fact that is isnt the normal white and black, and I can pretty much do as I need to have fun with it. This is what inspired me...........its a forest based clone scout trooper usually that took over for the invading troops as more of an occupation trooper. Out2gtcha Posted October 29, 2018 Author Share Posted October 29, 2018 I started out by spraying the outer brownish surfaces of the speeder bike with Tamiya rattle can silver, then a layer of MIG chipping fluid, then a very thin layer of MRP NATO black, followed by mottling on an even thinner layer of MRP PC-12 (which was about the closet to the brownish look I was after), all in quick succession. I sprayed the black on pretty opaquely, but mottled the PC-12 on very lightly (even lighter than it looks here fresh): That takes care of the paint basics of the exterior of the speeder bike. While that all cured I painted up the individual parts of the underside mechanics of the bike. These were all painted in sub-assemblies since things fit together SO well. After the battle of Kashyyyk, the invading forces were taken over by occupation troops. With the vast, wet, water/jungle born nature of Kashyyyk, along with the separatist insurgent action taken by rebel Wookies still hiding in the depths of the jungles of the planet, the equipment that was used there regularly got extremely heavy wear and tear. All the underside mechanics of the bike are painted in Model Master gunmetal, followed by sever dry-brushing of MM aluminum. I was going for a really REALLY used look here................ The main chassis of the bike got the same MM gunmetal and almuminum dry brush, but also and accent of MRP polished aluminum on the inside of the intake/fan dohicky, as well as the metal panduit looking cable covers: The rear propulsion system I thought deserved something extra since it will be seen "in-flight" and throttled up, so I added a bit of Alclad hot blue: More weathering to come on the chassis too......... spacewolf, LSP_Kevin, BloorwestSiR and 2 others 5 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
