Is they any consensus that the underside of Gabreski's P-47D may have been natural metal or was it gray? I was reading that the squadrons aircraft were delivered in natural metal and it would make sense that the squadron would only paint to top sides for camouflage from above. The below photo looks as if it could be natural metal when you look at the landing gear covers, wheel covers and the bottom of the cowling.
