Although Brit Spits - Still one of my favourite pre-invasion images...

That said, plenty of very last minute make do and mend... and gut instinct says the the Squadron Leader's a/c got by far the neatest job!

Stange that the memo states that  gliders and transport shouldn't have stripes.

 

The Horsa still had then at Arnhem ! And all C-47's I've seen in pictures too.

Troop carriers on the other hand do get the stripes as per the order posted above. That does explain at least the C-47s. Not sure if the Horsa was also considered a troop carrier...

You don't see that being depicted very often on models, but it could be an interesting effect.

 

One of the problems is that your model is in danger of looking ineptly painted (by you) rather than 'authentic'.
