Mustangs, do they still handle like carthorses pulling a beer dray with a wobbly wheel?

Not even close now. Suspension on these cars, tied to an extremely stiff chassis is one hell of a handling car. I wish Ford had put a little more effort into an AC system that doesn't fail and a few minor interior issues. Parking brake handle has a boot that is just too tight and barely touch the handle and it pops up and your parking brake dash warning goes off. Also has a few infamous interior rattles and squeaks too.

Think it's the fuel pump  :shrug:

Not looking too good at the moment after three years outside and a bit left aside, but hopefully, I'll have time to take better care of her in the near future. Step one will be shock absorbers complete set change.

Sweet!  Mine was almost a Ruby Red. I ordered the 400a package, spoiler delete, spare tire and 3:55's with the manual trans. I was coming from a Laser Red '95 GT Convertible.  After dropping $1200 twice over 10 years for replacement tops, I had decided enough of the rag tops. Wife talked me into another color since the red '66 was in the garage and the totaled car was red. I wanted yellow, but she objected and told me I was "Too Old" to be driving a yellow car.  :mental:

 

I got the 400A package as well.  I had to replace the top in the Little Yellow Flash Banana in 2014.  The seal around the back window was notorious for rotting out.  The top I had installed came with a lifetime warranty for the seal around the rear window.  I preferred the new top over the old one.  The new one was a cloth material and not that vinyl like material that came from the factory.  Never had a leak around any of the seals or into the interior though.  I got 14 good years out of her and she only had just over 60K miles (103K kms) when I sold it.

 

no they have IRS now and  handle well.  We rented a turbo four when the wife and I were in Marco island.  it was a very nice car.  I love my V8 but the turbo four was fast enough for a  cruiser and got good mileage.  The camaros are the darling of the car magazines,some models are faster and handle better then my vette.  But I think for overall package looks  price the mustang  has it all. 

 

What dashotgun said.  When I was buying mine, I tested the 4, 6 and 8.  While the 46 and 6 were adequate, the 5.0 is a real kick in the pants when you open it up.  The IRS makes all the difference in the world.  You don't feel like you're going to see the rear end slide out to meet you when you're going around a bumpy curve.  I also think that the front end on the 15-17 Mustang is the nicest looking one they've ever put on the car.  I even got an 'Sto & Sho' under bumper licence plate mount so I wouldn't have to drill into the front bumper.

Must be an anomaly because I haven't encountered any of the issues you've identified, Scott.

Gotta love a shoebox.  BTW...nice collection of Strat bodies hanging on the wall.  I have a black 50th Anniversary Edition.

Must be an anomaly because I haven't encountered any of the issues you've identified, Scott.

 

6G forums has 71 pages in one thread about the AC issues.  Some guys are having their dash pulled and evap box replaced for the 4th time. 

Mine went out, but dealership told me it was just my Schrader valve. Still sweating this one. Pardon the pun! But my warranty expired last November.

 

A few others have mentioned the tight boot on the parking brake handle as well.  Might be only a '15 issue, and maybe early production runs.  I've thought about getting a replacement and redoing it.  If the handle had a spring to hold it down or a notch for the prawl to catch, it would be a non-issue.

You wouldn't want one of those mid - late 90s Mustangs anyway. Total crap fest.

 

I had to drop about $3700 in my '95 to make it handle right. 

Front Cobra Control arms.

Solid UPR rear control arms

Eibach Lowering springs

Tokico struts and shocks

maximum Motorsports caster/camber plates

Cobra brakes

More $$$ if you include better wheels and tires.

 

And after all of this, I could NOT find a rear sway bar that would not break the end off of.  Strange thing about these cars. If it ever breaks a rear swaybar, it will always break one.  If the car never breaks one, never an issue.  My oldest son's cars never broke one. My youngest boy broke his as fast as I broke mine. I went through 3, including a Steeda brand.  Finally pulled it off and had to slow down my curvy driving.  Son didn't compensate for his driving when he broke his and lost it in a turn and hit a guard rail. 

But with the above mods, the car really handled great in every day traffic.  Ford should have been sued for the crappy stock GT brakes they put on these cars.

 

Funny story....After the son pulled his sway bar off, he left it laying by the walk way going into the back yard.  Daughter came home one night and was coming in the house.  I heard a loud scream from the back yard and went running to the porch.  She was hysterical because a huge snake was reared up and about to bite her as she came through the gate.  I got my flash light and showed her that her snake was quite stiff and couldn't move.  :doh:     :rofl:
