Bruce_Crosby
Hi Guys, Had a little break after Focke Factory and built some tanks and Sci-Fi which I've just posted on Non LSP Works, so have a look. Here's a start on Revell's take on the Me262, the two seater night fighter version. Actually a very good kit, here in the UK it's extremely good value. Cockpit sub-assemblies painted and all kit decals applied. I added Fine Molds belts. 262workz by Bruce Crosby, on Flickr Cockpit together. 262workz by Bruce Crosby, on Flickr Fuselage together, wings on, no real filler just some Mr surfacer. Excellent fit of parts. 262workz by Bruce Crosby, on Flickr Start of the big mask up. 262workz by Bruce Crosby, on Flickr Some colour at last. Primer was Mr Surfacer, grey on top, black underneath. ALL, and I mean ALL paint so far has been Mission Models MMP, really beautiful paint to spray and my go-to now. This is their take on RLM76 with the first mottle in 81 262build by Bruce Crosby, on Flickr Rest of the mottle in MMP's 82. 262build by Bruce Crosby, on Flickr The wings with MMP RLM82 262build by Bruce Crosby, on Flickr Areas under the slats I've shown as bare metal, this time MMP's Faded Aluminium. Slats on for show, still loose. 262build by Bruce Crosby, on Flickr photos of Red 8 show lots of wear on the engine, my attempt with masking tape, sponge and a lot of swearing! 262 Build by Bruce Crosby, on Flickr Not sure whether to put the walkway stripes on or not. Close examination of all my books on late was German planes would suggest not. You see them in artwork but not in photos of the aircraft. 262 Build by Bruce Crosby, on Flickr I made a slight faux-pas when I designed my masks and only noticed the swastika was wrong after I'd airbrushed it on. Luckily a bit of spit and a few strokes with a sanding stick and it was gone. MMP paint feathers beautifully so no raised edges. No tail! by Bruce Crosby, on Flickr And a redesigned and cut mask later . . . . . . . New markings by Bruce Crosby, on Flickr Hope you like it! Bruce_Crosby
Hi Guys, Thought I'd expand on what went wrong with the tail markings. I made my own masks and drew the skeletal Swastika completely wrong, noticing the mistake only after they were painted on. lots of curses! Oh dear by Bruce Crosby, on Flickr So I attacked the markings with a Flory sander and a bit of spit, it left me with this: No tail! by Bruce Crosby, on Flickr The MMP paint feathers easily, probably due to the Polyurethane additive. Next up was blowing on some RLM76. No tail! by Bruce Crosby, on Flickr Then additions of 81 and 82. New markings by Bruce Crosby, on Flickr New markings by Bruce Crosby, on Flickr And the result: Paint mods by Bruce Crosby, on Flickr Hope you like it. All things are fixable once you stop panicking and start to think. Regards, Bruce Crosby LSP_Kevin, Chris Wimmer, Victor K2 and 2 others
Madmax
Hi Bruce, The Revell kit looks very good. It certainly has the edge on the Trumpeter offering in some areas, like the rear part of the cockpit decking, and the infernal rivets. Your mottling has captured the spirit of the original. Well done. There was a walkway marking on the original, as noted by the artist/historian Ron Belling. It was originally straight, like this... (thanks to Etienne du Plessis for the photo) Sadly, it now looks like this. Some fanciful re-interpretation has crept into the repainting of this aircraft since Belling's highly authentic repaint in the seventies. Bruce_Crosby
Hi Sean, Thanks for the photos, very much appreciated and I WILL be adding the markings very shortly. It also looks like the engine cowling top was all black as well so maybe a bit of respraying there too. Regards, Bruce Crosby

The top of the cowling was painted in an unspecified dark green, which Pat Donahue (a great enthusiast on the subject of these night fighters) has identified as the same green as found on the NASM's Me262's main gear legs. The green ran all the way to the intake lip originally. After a bit of flying in the UK, it was touched up with black paint as can be seen in the following photograph. So, at a stage it did have black on the forward intake. Cheers, Sean
Bruce_Crosby
Hi Sean, I've got the walkway markings on, all wrinkled up with MicroSol at the moment. I'm going to leave the intake cowlings in black with the top cover over the front of the engine in RLM81 which is BraunViolet and the MMP colour I've used has come out very dark with gloss varnish over it (to take decals) and I think it will stay that way once I apply the Matt finish. What's strange is your photo shows diagonal braces on the radar legs, not seen prior to capture in most photos. Also nice to see some lettering on top of the external fuel tanks laying on the ground. I've done the port one in scraped black, the stbd one almost bare metal, so will have to find a tank top decal from somewhere! Brilliant information, thanks for supplying it.
