Hello Brian,

Thanks for the comments.

Regarding the pipes, they are 0.5mm Brass Rod.

I do not use any jigs, just the squares on my mat.

The cheating bit is I use photo etched pipe brackets placed at strategic spaces, there are four in the run (two under the brackets in the last photo.

You can make out one of them as well in that last photo.

I also worked that a dead 90 degree on my long nose pliers is 1.4mm radius which is the spacing on my brackets...

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Steve

I really like the way those hard lines look ran all together in parallel. Looks very realistic.  Out of curiosity, what kind of thickness/type of wire did you use for those? Did you make up a jig or anything to keep them all parallel to each other?

Hello All!

Here we go then, painting...Phase One.

Some comments before you look at the photos.

Firstly, I am going for the old crate look.

Secondly, for those of you who may not have researched the P-61, I have come to the following conclusion;

  • When the P-61 was in production, tie wraps were not invented.
  • When the P-61 was in production, tie wraps were too much hassle for Northrop to use;

Regarding the painting, everything down to the seats gets NINE coats of Airbrush;

  1. Polyurethane Primer Coat after a good wash
  2. Alclad II Duralumin Metal Coat
  3. Alclad Semi Gloss Varnish (makes it difficult to remove number 4)
  4. Alclad Mil-Spec Zinc Chromate Yellow
  5. Hairspray
  6. Alclad Mil-Spec USAAF WWII Interior Green

Then I did the Old Crate Treatment & added the decals

I researched the Geology of Ie Shima and it comparable to Western Europe so;

       7. Sepier Dark Brown Wash

       8. Black Wash

       9. Matt Varnish

So Here you go;

Fantastic, but I believe the ceramic conduit holders were light coloered if not white.  I'm going to be saving photos of your plane for future references.  Very well done.  Will you be adding the decal on the right side, like in the photo you show at the top of the page, that says, "AN-AP5-13 RADIO"?

Here you go Will,

Unfortunately, a pre-ordained wear point meant that AP5-13 RAD is somewhere over the pacific...
