Tamiya Caterham is being reissued!

Recommended Posts

I'm excited that they're releasing an SF70H in 1/20.  Can't wait to get my hands on that one

Matt  :frantic:

THANK YOU so much for mentioning this.

I had no idea Tamiya was releasing a new 1/20 F1 kit, or that it would be the Ferrari.

This is really exciting news for me and that's a project I can't wait to start.

One of my old modeling loves are tamiya 1/20 F1 cars and 1/12 too.

The Caterham kit always looked really interesting but I never built that one.  I spent a few months knocking out their FW-14b many years ago...

I have the Revell 1/12 Ferrari F2002 sitting over here in the stash.

Just a quick update on this. I've been checking around online for when this would be available and it seems to be hard to find. Hobby Search and Lucky Model have it listed for pre-order but Hobby Search is sold out. Nothing at HLJ Hobby Easy, or Seal Hobbies. I checked Great Hobbies on a whim and they have the kit up for pre-order for the best price at $399 CAD and free Canadian shipping. So I've gone with them.

Hello Catheram S7' fan

by the way didn't find what the "R" means in Belt Drive R... (BDR)

anyone knows?

Thx

Raf

Maybe only Tamiya, it doesn't seem to be used by Caterham

Got it!:

Meanwhile, the ‘R' pack is more track-focused and is stuffed full of race-inspired goodies that will make every drive you take an event, whilst retaining its road car status. It includes a limited-slip differential, sports suspension, a four-point race harness and many other race-orientated upgrades.

Humm, not sure Richard about "R" pack from 2015 ??

as the Tamiya model looks like from 1994, and is an actual model from 1988.

I would better think this is about the Ford Cosworth engine BDR type:

but not found what the "R" is?  = Road? may be but not completely clear.

Funnily enough, I was thinking about this while driving about the other day. Starting with the idea of the BDA I did wonder if it was an engine variant

Based on the Wikipedia entry, you are right:

In 1983, the BD series saw its second road engine incarnation (the first being the original BDA and BDB), the BDR, which was a BDA or BDB sold in kit form for the Caterham Super Seven in 1601 cc (120 bhp) and in 1701 cc (130 bhp) formats.

Some gratuitous engine porn. A BDA in an Excort:

<sigh>

and a BDR in a Caterham:
