Uncarina
Dennis, Beautiful work so far! There must be some kind of cloth that you could use to rub off that residue; would an old t-shirt work for example? Cheers, Tom

Dennis7423
All- When I left last, I had begun painting the red on the fuselage in preparation for clear coat and decals. Well, that time has since passed, and the decals and a clear coat have been applied. I was then able to remove the window masks in preparation for a wash, and I'll admit, I am damn pleased with the results. There's a minimal amount of clouding inside some of the windows that I should be able to clear up without much issue. I'll let the photos do the talking... 42139072_535151513576393_8645343780402102272_n by Dennis SAuter, on Flickr 41990899_430206080718019_38399829419753472_n by Dennis SAuter, on Flickr 41958036_1817414744994333_2471037239648321536_n by Dennis SAuter, on Flickr 42112664_2283190545234282_485626407355940864_n by Dennis SAuter, on Flickr 41962020_360708094470172_2345823820390072320_n by Dennis SAuter, on Flickr 42104292_228638748007031_7394712383991578624_n by Dennis SAuter, on Flickr After removing the masks, I just couldn't help myself from dry-fitting the turrets and taking a look. tomprobert
Looking great! Personally I'd steer well away from a wash - you've got the panel lines and rivet detail showing nice and naturally as it is - if you look at period photographs of natural metal B-17s you won't see prominent panel lines for sure... just light shadows where they overlap, etc. With some oil streaking and exhaust around the engine nacelles, you should get a very natural look. Each to their own of course, but I think your surface looks great as it is. Tom Dennis7423 and NukerDan

Gerhard
Loving it Dennis. Do AK have the metal paints in the spray cans? I have seen the black primer.

Gerhard, I don't believe they do. Only airbrush. However, you can airbrush straight from the bottle (no thinning required), and it goes on like a dream. - Dennis S. Did the clear coat have any effect on the shine? Cheers, Tom Tom, I used a Model Master semi-gloss clear coat enamel from the can, and it went on great. Didn't negatively affect the shine at all. - Dennis S. Thornton, CO USA Out2gtcha and Uncarina
Dennis7423
All- Another small update. When I left you last, the decals had been applied, and work was progressing on the little pieces remaining on the fuselage. I applied a light wash to the fuselage, which consisted of a little ivory black and neutral grey acrylic paint mixed with warm water and a little dish soap. One coat, and a war movie later, the fuselage was complete with just enough grime to show a late-war B-17 that hadn't been in theater very long. Once the wash was complete, I could start attaching the smaller bits to the fuselage. This consisted of Master Details gun barrels, the DF "football" antennae, the forward "aero" antennae on top of the nose, and a scratch build trailing wire antennae (the kit does not supply this detail). I still have a "whip" antennae to attach just forward of the windscreen, but I will likely wait until she's on wheels to add this final fiddly detail. Hatches were also attached, as well as the bomb bay doors. The final bits to do to the fuselage now only total two... that whip antennae, and the line antennae from the tail to the radio room and antennae mast. What's with all these antennae? Wings are next on the docket. The have already been assembled and had putty applied, sanded, and Mr. Surfacer applied. I figure those should go pretty quick, and they'll be in for paint in no time. Also waiting on some replacement cowl flap supports from Eduard to complete the Eduard Brassin engine as well. Stay tuned! Here's some photos of the fuselage with all of the above attached, sans the tail antennae and the whip antennae. As always, comments and critiques are most welcome! 42591520_2384286398264674_236551839292588032_n by Dennis SAuter, on Flickr 42612057_184733902424158_5185141165501972480_n by Dennis SAuter, on Flickr 42601091_281713176008644_6617723061791621120_n by Dennis SAuter, on Flickr 42666812_2473702635979958_1751715373884899328_n by Dennis SAuter, on Flickr 42634036_277658609518745_5261703067836874752_n by Dennis SAuter, on Flickr 42649082_270661936900512_5571247043101327360_n by Dennis SAuter, on Flickr 42627930_662491927483742_542971904454033408_n by Dennis SAuter, on Flickr 42612009_308207156634512_6888743405204013056_n by Dennis SAuter, on Flickr 42627934_691565847868586_3618207585477328896_n by Dennis SAuter, on Flickr 42611657_310386739787574_6135258768272785408_n by Dennis SAuter, on Flickr 42604179_1101678719982637_1307404911238971392_n by Dennis SAuter, on Flickr 42622703_2082137988766615_4282316491304468480_n by Dennis SAuter, on Flickr 42643247_310585703076853_6771925087936315392_n by Dennis SAuter, on Flickr - Dennis S.
