Another Corsair: Tamiya's FG-1D USS Gloucester

I've finally started a Tamiya Corsair build. Please excuse the poor photos. I'm using the Barracuda stencil set and tires, and Eduard's seatbelts and engine upgrade set. Otherwise mostly out of the box, though I will be using stencils. So far I've only scratchbuilt the oxygen mask and hose.

Cheers, Tom

That looks fantastic Tom!

Did you use the Barracuda decals for the placards?

Carl

Carl, thanks! Yes indeed. I got lucky with the right console: it was a challenge getting the decal lined up over the raised detail.

Looking GOOOOD!! :)

John, you are very kind! I see why you keep building these birds!

nice progress

I must get to mine soon

Brian,

Thank you! I always have a more difficult time with the gloss finishes, which makes me fixate on the flaws. In this case, it was covering the small slots on the sides of the fuselage (around where the insignia is located) that were, if I recall correctly, only present on British Corsairs. I could be wrong about this, but if you look at the 1-D's you won't see them. All of Tamiya's Corsairs have them, and I don't come across many instances where their removal is mentioned. For some reason every attempt at filling them with CA and sanding still left them visible, so I walked away from the build last November. Yesterday I made another attempt, perhaps with more TLC, and I was pleased with the results. Thanks for checking in, and your support should see me across the finish line!

Cheers, Tom
