'Grace' type two-seat Spitfire in 1:32

Oh my....she sure is pretty.  Wonderful wonderful build!

I hope you don't mind me mentioning this, and I am sure it is not too late.  But ML407 is one of the very few flying rebuilds that has her cammo demarcation running further down her nose.  Most rebuilds show this as a hard line finishing at the lower cowl.  However many (not all of course) Spitfires in wartime service had it below this line and is often missed on kits. I pulled this off the 'net' to illustrate

This is in no way a criticism, but you have got her perfect so far and I think it would be a shame to miss this.

Keep up the great work!

Hi Anthony,

Yup - fully aware of the differences - and that the green grey demarcation on the cowling is further forward (to allow for the front 'pit being further forward) - but as I mentioned near the beginning - this isn't meant to directly represent ML407 - but  a model of the same two-seat conversion type. :)

Some of this may change as my client makes final decisions regarding markings - but I want to get the stenciling done first. If we move the grey/green onto the lower cowl that's a very simple job.

  • 2 weeks later...

Have been waiting on some decals for serials/codes and these have arrived from Hannants - along with a nice set of prop blade stencil decals by Kora.

Discussing markings options with client and we're leaning towards a tribute to one of the last Spit IXs operated by 133 'Eagle' Squadron, lost over France just before the squadron was absorbed into the USAAF.

Back on stickers again today - should have some good update photos tomorrow.

Spent all day on her today - now shattered!

One of those days - lots of work - not a huge amount of progress to see - but I'll post some photos later - need to go soak in the bath.

Prop stencils and all lower surface stencils done, new rear door made and fitted - along with front, and other nips and tucks.

For anyone contemplating using the Kora prop stencils - trim back into the black area - the first one I cut out, allowing a clear varnish border, ended up with white edges when applied to the black prop blade and had to be binned. But end result does look very good.

Oh - and more softening solution on fuselage roundels...

But - should now be able to add the codes and serials in next few days - model will be a modern-day two-seat tribute to BS140 MD-V of 133 Sqn., shot down over Guingamp in Sept 1942, with the loss of a brave young American pilot who'd volunteered to fly with the RAF - Gene Neville.

Laters...

And where we're at this evening...

Entry doors in place. These were going to be in the open position, but client would like to be open and close canopies, so fitted closed now.

Rear is based on a spare front door, cut to size, twisted to match fuselage profile and new 'hinge' added from stretched sprue.

Very happy with fit at this stage - need to get some paint on:

Dummy red 'gun squares' masked and sprayed - but I think they're a little dark - so will re-mask and touch in:

Nose underside glossed ready for black aircraft code 'V':

Dry assembled prop (excuse dog hair - not noticed when I took photo - but had just stroked the dog!).

Some decals to go on the spinner - and everything will be matted down - but starting to look busy:
