NigeW
News of the forthcoming UK Phantom made me decide to start building 1/32 aircraft again, after nearly 10 years of railway modelling, once it is available. However, having been shown the logbook belonging to the grandfather of my daughter's partner, I now find myself building a Revell Spitfire IX as one that he flew with 154 Sqn during WW2. I know the serial number from the logbook and, surprisingly, there is colour footage of the actual aircraft from the time he flew it on YouTube. The one thing that has stumped me so far is sourcing white code letter decals of the appropriate size; having been out of the hobby for so long I am at a loss as to likely sources for 1/32 16" (1/48 24"?) white code letters and a trawl of the internet has not turned anything up. Can anyone suggest a suitable source? Cees Broere
Iain
Hi Nige, Welcome aboard! Are you sure you need white, and not Sky? 30" https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/X32024 24" https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/X32023 Black code letters: https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/X32021 Do you have a specific photo to work from? EDIT: Ignore this post - see below Iain
Iain
OK - just found a photo - yes - look white - and smaller... Will have a look around - Hannants do smaller white for serials - but too small. iain LSP_K2
Iain
Doh! I'm losing it with age... Kagero do a book/sheet - I reviewed it here! Hope that helps Iain LSP_K2
NigeW
Hi Iain, Thanks for the information; the Kagero review was most helpful. The size of the code letters surprised me but, having scaled them from the photo in your review and the YouTube clip, they come out at 16" I think Colorado do 16" in sky/grey, but not in white as far as I am aware. The airframe I want to reproduce is HT-T as this was the airframe flown by the owner of the logbook most of the time it was with 154 from May 44 until the sqn handed over it's MkIXs to the French at the end of September 44. I could use a set of the Kagero decals as he did fly HT-V on one occasion, but would rather do T in which he flew 44 sorties. With the book out of print I have e-mailed Kagero to see if they could supply me with just the decals as I reckon I could cannibalise them to make the codes I need, although having seen how the sheet is set up I now realise 2 sheets would make the task much easier. I await a response. Nige LSP_K2
Iain
Hi Nige, If you can't get hold of the Kagero sheet then ping me your snail mail address via private message and I'll send over the relevant decals - along with the relevant black serial letters for HT-T if you let me know what the serial number was... Kagemusha
Hi Nige, I also have the book, so let me know if you want the HT decals. Andy LSP_K2
NigeW
Iain and Andy, Many thanks for the offers. If Kagero aren't able to supply the decals I will be in touch. Nige Kagemusha and Iain
