F-8 Crusader "Mig Killer" Decals?

Recommended Posts

Eli,

Have you ever given thought to doing a set of F-8 Crusader "Mig Killer" Decals? I would surely like to see a set-- particularly some of the F-8E's from VF-211 on their 1966-67 cruise. As far as I know, these have never been done in 1/32 scale. Hope you give it some thought!

Well Eli, if it encourages you, I would submit that a set of F-8 Crusader "Mig Killers" decals would nicely complement your F-4 Phantom "Mig Killers" sheets. Aside from my own selfish motivation in pushing for these decals, I do feel that they would be a great seller. With Paul Fisher coming out with some Corsair detail parts, including Y racks, I would suggest that you will find a ready market for these decals. Thanks for any consideration you might give these decals!

You could even ask the forum to suggest different pilots and squadrons they would like to see - my pick would be Cdr Dick Bellinger of VF-162 for his 1966 shoot down - I later worked for him in 68 on the Ticonderoga so that would be a favorite for me to do in 1/32.

My personal preference would be F-8E NP101 of VF-211, Bu. No. 149150, flow by Cdr. Paul Spear. I just like the combination of the VF-211 checkered rudder, white radome, Cdr. Spear's personal mig kill marking below the cockpit and a row of six squadron mig kill markings along the sides of each ventral fin. If the truth be known, NP101 was not the F-8 in which Cdr. Spear achieved his Mig kill-- he flew it after the mig kill mission and was flying it with all its mig kill markings when VF-211 returned to Miramar at the end of their cruise. Of course I would be happy with any of the F-8E's from VF-211's 1966-67 cruise, but I just like the looks of NP101-- a classic F-8E flown by a mig-killing pilot.

Just joining forum, so hello to all of you. I too think this would be a great set of decals and wanted to let Jerry know that my friends brother was plane captain for Dick Bellinger on the Oriskany, so would love to see his markings included as well.

Dan, thanks for sharing with me on that - Dick had a pretty bad ending with the Navy but was great to the enlisted guys and a pleasure to work for and with.

I've already my setup for a MiG killer F-8, thanks to Trumpeter, Fisher and Zotz.

An F-8C from VF-111, a bit of an outsider compared to VF-24 and -211.

BUT...

I would love to add an F-8E, my choice being LCDR Guy Cane 150349 from VF-53.

MiG killers would be cool, but those are the ones that always get done when it comes to F-8s.  I'd like to see some CAG-8 aircraft from the late 1960s instead, something that has not been done before.

Guys,

Due to the big earthquake we had, all postage services are on hold by the Mexican govnmt.

As soon as services restart Hannants and Sprue will have them shipped.

Thanks for understanding,
