phoenix 54
Hi all, having had a word with our Kev (thank you Sir, your a Gentleman), he has given me the go ahead to post the following here, as there is NO scale requirment. It may well appeal more to the European and UK 'members' of the fantastic 'club' that we have here................ then again............................. Coastal Command was very diverse, why shouldn't the membership be? So, please read on................................ Just a quick message to let you all know the RAF Coastal Command SIG has been reformed. To explain, briefly, what a Special Interest Group is. It is a specific item (equipment) or arm of service that enough people like / build, to enable a specialist group to grow from both the IPMS AND non IPMS afficianados. (and me!) I know, it appears to be another strange thing to come from the Brits! N.B. you DO NOT have to be a member of IPMS to join us!! No fee's so it's reasonably! cheap BUT MUST have a direct link with (in this case) RAF Coastal Command at any time from inception in 1936 to it's 'Stand Down' in 1969, this includes aircraft as diverse as Ansons to Shackletons, Wellesley, Vildebeest, Hector, Beauforts, Beaufighters, Mosquito's,B-17, B-24, Coranado and Catalina / Canso's to ASR launches and Pinnacles......... Should you want to know more, PLEASE PM me first. (give me time to read the script!) We have hopefully booked table space at this years 2017 SMW show at Telford.First official 'outing' may be at the Driffield show 3 September 2017, NO GUARANTEE!!If possible, we will be next / close to the Bomber Command SIG at shows both groups attend. If you have been a member in the past, and wish to rejoin, OR want to join as it "seems like a good idea"please send me a P.M! phoenix 54
Hi all, Latest update for all "Kipper Fleet" fans............ The reformed Coastal Command SIG WILL have it's first outing at this years (2017) SMW.I have been told that we have table space allocated, so if you want to dust of some of your kitsand bring 'em along, we'll be very glad to see/meet you. I'll keep you up to speed as we receive further information. This will be particularly relevant to NON IPMS members, as those of you already with IPMS(UK) will receive time scales and floor plans via the 'in house' magazine. The Coastal Command SIG will remain on the UAMF site (http://uamf.org.uk/index.php) so anybody that has been putting off contacting me (you KNOW who you are![Maru ]) you now have NO excuse!! All the best,Paul

phoenix 54
Hi Mike, and thanks. We know that most of the PRU squadrons were tasked to Coastal Command at one time or another, but always remained under PRU control. There were squadrons of Bomber Command seconded to Coastal and FAA squadrons. Add in the USN and USAAF squadrons, though these were similar to the PRU, as in orders and tasking lay with their own control set up, they just used the bases, one of the 'favorites' being St. Eval in Cornwall. Will we be seeing you at Telford? Paul
