I agree, I think KHM has been unfairly treated in a lot of ways. Yes, some of their kits are bad. Some are actually great, and some are great with some minor "oddities" or strange engineering choices, but I think most anyone who has the right attitude and some average modeling skills going in, can make a winner out of a lot of KHMs recent releases.

As you said, each to their own, as comparatively speaking, I dont regard their kits as going for a premium price, nor have I pulled my hair out building any of their kits.

That's not to say it wasnt extra work in some places, but the KHM I've built have been far, FAR from "bin-em" material, and I far from leaving me feeling like I'd not build anything by KHM ever again.

@crobinsonh thank you for your kind words.

I always found that Kitty Hawk has been unjustly treated in certain quarters of the internet. KH bashing has even become a current trend in some forums.

Despite the glitches, KH kits offer a great potential for super-detailing and conversion.

Let the moaners moan and the modellers model.:)

Some call it bashing, others call it a realistic evaluation.   You want to write off major misses (many of which are very difficult to fix) as “glitches”, go for it.    As far as these evaluations being “unjust”,  go find those unjust issues and post here.   If the issues flagged by the bashers are actually erroneous, we can talk.

@Jennings Heilig Looks like you’re caught in the Groundhog Day loop yourself repeating ad infinitum like a mantra “RF-101, complete mess, premium price,...”

The KH Voodoo suffers from 2 main issues One major: the intakes (a detail not really clarified until recently, as I discovered while trying to correct it) and one minor: a rectangular instead of an oval vent on the mid-fuselage.  The allegedly ‘wrong nose’ does actually capture rather faithfully the subtle shape of the original.

As for the premium price, the KH RF-101 at 48 euro costs 1 euro more than the GWH T-33 (which is half the Voodoo’s size) and 7 euro less than the Tan Model RF-84F. So where’s the premium in it?

@John1 check out my WIP of the KH RF-101 HERE.

You’ll find that the issues are not as catastrophic as it’s been said and that they can be corrected with a modicum of modelling skills.

Cheers,

Quang

WHAT ARE YOU ALL DOING??????

This was supposed to be a 1/32 thread about the upcoming Thunderstreak and Flash.................

Can we please get back to the subject at hand or otherwise knock it off, i'm really getting fed up with this , and oh yeah i know i'll get some of you all over my comments, like : "if you don't like it the way it's going, then don't read it or comment on it" and more BS like that..........

I thought I had gone back in time and was reading a Trumpeter thread !

Same old nonsense trolled out again and again because some hate (I use that word as it's pretty obvious) a certain manufacturer.

At least with Trumpy the pitchforks only came out with the first sprue shots.

I guess some manufacturers will never be able to do anything right even if they produce some good new kits.

Nice to know though that we have some on here that can see into the future and already know these will be bad.

:clap2::thumbsup:

I do sincerely hope Kitty Hawk up their game with the RF-84F (and Streak) compared with the smaller scale recce Voodoo. In particular, it needs to include internal camera sensors and have camera windows which fit. Or better still, large clear parts for the nose requiring the windows to be masked, for zero ugly joins.

To give some of the readers some background on the work that has been done for the next KH kits. A small group formed end of 2013 to look at the available F-84F and RF-84F kits. The focus first turned on the Streak and specialists Bruce and Harold were able to come up with a lot - and I mean a lot - of great info on the jet (photos, measurements, panel lines corrections). Luuk Boerman and I did the same from the other side of the pond and collected our materials. Fate also had it that I was able to get into touch with an architect / aviationist who has almost unlimited access to the Danish airforce jets. He was able to come up with the proper drawings (so, the R. Caruna ones are now obsolete). I know for a fact that reps of KH travelled to Denmark to see the Flash with their own eyes.

All the information gathered for KH was stored and first other kits would be issued in order to improve and further learn about the proper 3d CAD processes (we speak of 2013-2014, so quite a few kits have now been issued and quality has improved). The Mirages will be the next in line and the chopper series (Blackhawk, little bird, Huey, etc).

Given that KH asked the group to come alive again, we shall gather additional information to try to make sure the kits will be the best to date by KH. Glen is a huge fan of the Streak / Flash (and so are we in the group) so he wants to get it right. The Flash is first, the Streak follows thereafter. I myself shall go with a small group to the Brussels museum to make additional walk-arounds for the project, so stay tuned...and criticism is fine as long as it is constructive.
