Joel_W
The cockpit really looks quite good. As for the Wheel Wells, they should be Gloss White, but they didn't stay Glossy very long. Joel Shaka HI and F`s are my favs
Finn
I could only find ones with the engine still installed, mostly of the EA-6B. Here is an A-6A: https://s3.amazonaws.com/marinephotos.togetherweserved.com/1089328.jpg Prowler shots: https://media.defense.gov/2012/Sep/28/2000110927/-1/-1/0/120925-F-XA488-021.JPG https://catalog.archives.gov/id/6500148 https://catalog.archives.gov/id/6498412 https://catalog.archives.gov/id/6671285 Shaka HI and F`s are my favs
Emilio
Thanks Joel and Finn, these pictures are good reference, I guess I will have to paint the rear intake part on the engine white. And I will go with a white engine bay, it seems weird that the bay doors and the wheel wells are white and the engine bay green. spyrosjzmichos
Emil, that's a wonderful looking cockpit! Love it! Shaka HI
Finn
Emil white is your best bet, when the A-6 was fresh out of the factory i'm sure the bays were nice and clean however over time they got grimy and dirty, especially since they were engines bays. A few pics can be seen here: http://www.navysite.de/cruisebooks/cv60-91/index_026.htm from the USS Saratoga Cruise Book. Jari
Emilio
Yes, I went with white. I`m currently working on the ordenance, should I make the Mark 82s with the long fuze or the short one? And can I mix "normal" 82s with Snake Eyes on one Mer? Emil Shaka HI
Finn
Emil the fuze extenders went out of service with the Navy when they switched to proximity fuzes which could be set for various heights. Also normally they wouldn't put conical tail Mk-82s with Snakeyes on the same MER due to the fact they fall differently even if the fins don't open up. Finn
Emil i came across this: http://www.navysite.de/cruisebooks/cvn65-68/299.htm it's a A-6A from VA-35 but it shows white in the bay, except for a heat shield on the top. Jari Shaka HI
Emilio
Thats are really helpful picture, Jari. Thanks for all the help . One part I really don`t like on the kit is the front area of the bay, where the engine connects to the air intake. I guess I will have to scratchbuild this wall. Collin
Anyone know when they started painting A-6A radomes the upper grey color(continued from the fuselage)rather than the yellow pasty color that seems to be common on A-6A's from ~'68 to '72? Cheers Collin
ziggyfoos
Anyone know when they started painting A-6A radomes the upper grey color(continued from the fuselage)rather than the yellow pasty color that seems to be common on A-6A's from ~'68 to '72? Late 60s, at least by 69 there could be grey on the nose.
