Luca, from Iranian Tigers at War by Babak Taghvaee some typical weapons for the Iran-Iraq war were:

  • 4 x Mk. 82 and Mk. 82 Snakeye bombs
  • LAU-3 rocket pods
  • M117 bombs
  • BL.755 cluster bombs
  • BLU-1B napalm bombs

All are available in 1/32 from Video Aviation

@Luca

You'll also need an IRQ7A ejection seat. The instrument panel can be used "as is".

Tom already listed the most commonly used types of ordnance found on Iranian F-5s.

Anyone know of any sources for a 1/32 IRQ7A ejection seat?

Or........... are the MB. Mk.7 seats in F-104 Starfighters or F-4 Phantoms visibly different from the IRQ7A??   How difficult to convert?

No the Iranian F-5E's have the early LERX and pointy nose.

so why does KH depict enlarged LERXs on the painting/markings sheet? is it an issue?

thanks Tom, Kagemusha and Airfixer... who makes the IRQ-7A seat?

I'm assuming they've used the same outline for all the profiles, irrespective of the actual specific version.

AMS produce a couple of versions of the MB Q7A, though the headrest looks different.

IRQ7A/BRQ7A seats? Not to my knowledge...

The German or Italian F-104 seats would be the closest counterparts.

Anyhow, the drogue chute containers of the F-104 seats differ significantly.

The F-4 seat is a compeletely different animal...the most distant relative, if you will.

Wait, the exhausts are *resin*??  Why?

The styrene kit parts are made from halves which leaves seams to clean up.

However, the pouring point on the resin spoils the delicate concentric cylindrical effect and may be very difficult to clean up. I raised this earlier - why do it this way? Daft as a brush.

The basic bottom seat pan/frame is similar. The side details and drogue chute container are totally different. I started doing a modification from one of my seats several years ago, but didn't see much of a reason to complete it...Now, maybe I do. I need to score a 'pit from the kit to fit everything though. I will drop a hint on Glen later.

Fancy another conspiracy theory?

Those resin nozzles are optional. I guess they conceived this feature to allow modellers to install nozzles on both the model and the engines. Displaying the latter as a separate item. And since they came up with this brilliant idea a bit late during the R&D process, cutting metal being immanent, they eventually decided to have them cast in resin...along with two pilot figures...while they were at it.

Or maybe they were planning to pimp the kit with two resin pilot figures right from the start.

On a smoggy day, after another endless department meeting, and having just finished his Bullshit-Bingo sheet, some smart guy from the design or marketing department rushed into the office of the guy in charge and said (beaming with joy): "Hey, while we're at it....brilliant idea...bombshell sensation! How about some additional resin nozzles?" Meanwhile, down in the basement, a bag of rice fell over...
