Tamiya Spitfire XVI- TD248

Recommended Posts

OK, so I managed a bit of progress over the weekend on the build. I assembled and painted the engine cradle:IMG_20170114_103513.jpg

I painted the coolant pipes in metallic brown and then attached those.IMG_20170115_222541.jpgIMG_20170115_223121.jpg

The finished cradle assembly:IMG_20170115_224420.jpgIMG_20170115_224430.jpg

Carl,

WHOA! those pipes look like proper metal..

Awesome paint job.

the whole assembly is IMPRESSIVE.

So I did a bit more painting of the interior green on the cockpit bits.

I then got myself into a bit of a pickle.i couldn't figure out which parts belonged to which build, especially after my cat decided to mix them up. I finally got them sorted and this time I separated them into their own tubs.

I also received two sets of Mastercasters three spoke wheels from Hannants.

I then started painting the IP(s).

I used semigloss black and then detail painted the dial surrounds.

I then installed the dial faces onto all of them.

Hopefully this week I'll get more done, but it is Robbie Burns Day on Wednesday and then Chinese New Year Saturday so we shall see.

Awesome progress and after I struggled with various copper colors for my Mossie's Merlins, yours look spot on. I'm guessing the metallic brown is the Tamiya call out color.

Keep 'em coming

Thanks Peter!

Tamiya actually call for interior green but I've always liked them in the copper color. I've seen a few pictures of them that way so that's what I used.

K..I'm confused, why do you have FOUR IP's?

Well, originally I had this Spitfire and the 22 in the Jurassic Plastic GB on the bench. Then I had to go look for stuff in a couple other boxes and ended up starting work on a VIII and then a VII too. So there's an HF VII, VIII, XVI, and a 22 on my workbench at the moment.

I just find it easier to paint everything that's three same in one shot.

Kind of like Castle Bromwich maybe?

Happy Robbie Burns Day!

I managed to sneak in a bit of bench time and apply the instrument decals.

I then got to work putting the panels together.

Here's the one for the XVI:

On the next image Shaka, you might want to avert your eyes as I took out most of the sprues that needed to be painted green:

Now onto to the detail painting...
