LSP_K2
Thanks, Maru. It seems like the more I look, the more I keep stumbling upon this same scheme, probably because it's one of the more vivid examples? This scan is from this Kagero "Fighters Over Japan" volume. mpk
Great kit, and I rather imagine you'll enjoy it. Odd thing about that particular scheme (I'll probably be doing those same markings), but that particular pilot (Kanno), was apparently killed in the closing weeks of the war, shot down by Hellcats, if memory serves. It seems a shame to fight all through the war, then get killed right before it ended. Kanno killed by P51 B29 escort. LSP_K2
Kanno killed by P51 B29 escort. Interesting, as one of my references says Hellcats did him in, though I guess it really doesn't make much difference. mpk and Shaka HI
DeanKB
Another item that I find somewhat perplexing, the Aero Detail book states that the visual loading indicators on landing gear doors, should be blue, yellow, red (from top to bottom), and yet some of their own illustrations, depict the reverse. I have no idea which is correct. Kaburaya Books Modellers Guide N1K2-J Shiden Kai George "Violet Lightning", shows blue-yellow-red from top to bottom, with a note saying that is the correct rendition? (Page 35). It's a lovely little book! Also blue-yellow-red on my photo of a walk-about example. Not sure where the plane is, but it looks like a US museum. DeanKB
.. nope.. a Mustang got him. Naoshi Kanno | World War II Database http://m.ww2db.com/person_bio.php?person_id=779 Page 71 of "Aircraft of the Aces 129 - J2M Raiden & N1K1/2 Shiden/ Shiden Kai Aces" states that Kanno was shot down & killed by "Hellcats from VF-9". The period of his death would suggest they were fighting US naval units, rather than high-flying B-29's, especially as N1K2's were naval aircraft & Kanno was a navy pilots,
mpk
This Japanese ace who flew this A/C says in this interview the P51 was the most dangerous. He obviously fought them while flying the N1K2. RBrown, Shaka HI and LSP_K2
LSP_K2
Also blue-yellow-red on my photo of a walk-about example. Not sure where the plane is, but it looks like a US museum. Yep, I see blue, yellow, red more than the other way around, so that's what I'll end up going with. mpk and Shaka HI

LSP_K2
I must say that this was a big surprise. While tentatively contemplating my next kit purchase, I'd pretty much settled on the Ki-44 Shoki (I like it somewhat better than the J2M), so was looking in the database for related books. I stumbled upon a Schiffer entry that was made by me, but I had no recollection of having ever purchased the book. Fortunately, unlike many of my books, this particular Schiffer series is very handy to me, so I went and checked it out; sure enough, I do own it. mpk and Shawn M
DeanKB
That's a very pleasant surprise. I love Schiffer books, quality stuff. Aircam no.25 is on the Ki-44, albeit it's age is showing somewhat now. Also Profile No.255, but that's even older, but charming nonetheless; FAOTW 16, the new style books, 14 the old style; Aircraft of the Aces 100 is the Ki-44; Avions No.120 has about 14 pages on the Ki-44. In French, but some interesting photo's & a couple of colour profiles. Knowing you Kevin, you've probably got most of those already? How's the Schiffer book, it's one of the few I've not got my mitts on? Edited January 24, 2017 by DeanKB
