1/18TH JSI F-14B Tomcat conversion

A-10LOADER

Greetings all,
Happy 4th of July.
Today's update consists of painting all the small details on the Big Cat prior to the gloss coat. I really enjoy this part because, next to the decal stage, this step starts to bring the aircraft to life. Enjoy the pics and thanks very much for looking in.

Arresting hook safety pin area and the fuel dump painted gloss red.

Painted the air intake "face" to represent an opening in the body.

Painted the gun gas exhaust ports black to simulate the openings.

Painted the ventral fins faces to represent the openings.

Painted the gun bay gas purge system air intake faces to represent the openings. I've since touched them up, they look much better.

At the rear of each ventral strake, there is an opening in the body ( don't know the proper nomenclature for this area ) and, this was painted black as well to simulate the opening.

All the ECM blisters were painted as well.

The ECM blister to the far left was previously finished.

Using my reference photos, I also painted any openings on the belly of the jet black to simulate their openings as well.

And finally, the Chaff / Flare buckets were painted.

Stunning work, Steve. I've only just found this thread and have enjoyed reading the adventure. Quite a few useful lessons in there for me, too, as I have the HobbyBoss 1/18th AV-8B incoming to my stash at the end of this month. Now I have an idea of how long a project it could be!

Looking forward to seeing the end result of you great Tomcat work.

Cheers

Kev

Thanks very much for taking the time to go thru the entire thread Kev, I'm glad you enjoyed it. It certainly has been quite the adventure for sure.

I have the pre-built Harrier in 1/18th scale and she looks pretty good built up. I weathered her up a bit and made a display base for her as well. I believe the pics are in the "Ready for Inspection " thread. Best of luck with the Harrier build.

Wow!  Have you any more of those kits?  Would love to see one posed on touchdown with all the slats and flaps out....

I do Anthony but, she is also posed in flight because I didn't want to risk the main gears from breaking, they are known to do this over time.
