Thank you, Kevin.  Why not have a go at it?  It may be a nice diversion from the cutting and pasteing you're doing on the G-14.  Something out of the box.

Thank you, Brian.  Don't make the same mistake I did.  Which is; use the copy panel line length to make the disc with drafted spacers.  The line width of the enlargement is so wide and jagged that there is a lot of room for error.  Measure the drawing, draft the image, then cut and use the drafted image.

Thank you, Kevin.

'I wonder what the intention of that massive spinner was all about?   Airflow directed to the cylinders perhaps?'

And to an intake of some sort.  It may also have been a carry over from the counter rotating prop.  Later Rex's had a George spinner.

Thank you, Ray.

'Which book are those drawings from, by the way?'

Thank you, Alan.

Thank you, Gazzas.

From Brians', F7F thread, thanks a heap for your compliment!

Some food for thought, Brian:

Counter%20Rotating%20Orange%20I_zpsyittu

Line drawing of your Orange counter-rotating prop.

Orange%20II_zpsozktk53p.jpg

Line drawing of the Orange 3-blade prop.  Notice inlet at cowling top.  Revell's George has this.

Orange%20Illustration%20I_zpsk4wakziv.jp

A nice color illustration of the above line drawing.

Photo%20Orange_zpsg22kekhr.png

A b & w of above and above that.

Sincerely,

Mark.

Have been doing a little of this and a little of that the old fashioned way.  Not nearly as impressive as what Dan the Man is doing.  Go Dan Go!

DSCN6463_zpsowt0q07f.jpg

Earlier on I had mentioned there is a relief vent on the fuselage behind the cowling.  Here is an image from the Tamiya Rex showing the vent.

DSCN6464_zpspuckb3kj.jpg

Making the vent by first laying down some shaped Evergreen.  I stopped here because of a problem with the cowling.

DSCN6466_zpsobz6mffs.jpg

The cowling face was not square to the base, which threw off the panel line which tied into the front end of the vent.  So I built a jig to better see the problem area

DSCN6467_zpsa0y0dwsj.jpgSuper glued strips to the cowling to square it up.

DSCN6468_zpsbndpmply.jpgDrafted up 4 of these to make the spinner while the cowling dried.

DSCN6472_zpsgj3fdxpm.jpg

Used this to square up the propellers.

DSCN6469_zpsuoa6w4hm.jpg

Built the spinner to see how everything fit and plopped it into the engine.  I knew the spinner fit wouldn't be perfect because the round plate dimensions were taken off of the enlarged Xerox drawing and the the spacers were drafted and cut with a French Curve.  I need to make everything based on my drawing.

The new cowling shape.  Still need to fill and sand.

DSCN6471_zpsharfvvxh.jpg

Dropped in place to see how everything fit.

I'll put this aside for a while and do some molding and casting.

Thanks for looking and liking.

Sincerely,

Mark

That's a LOT of work, Mark - but it's coming along quite nicely.  If you should have need, I have a spare cowling from the George.

Thanks, Mark! That is one I don't have. The two I have are Famous Airplanes of the World #124 - which has some nice pics btw, I will post a couple, and another on the N1K1/2 family where the only thing I can read is "#304."

Thank you, Brother.

Scanned the photos from the Model Art book.  About 35 or so.  Fair Use Act in play.

I might just do that. The Tamiya kit is actually quite excellent.

Thanks for posting those pictures under fair use Mark.

The remaining color on that particular Rex is really interesting.  Hard to distinguish in most of the pictures.  The one photo with the fuselage tail cone light is almost blue green while the rest seem some sort of blue in tone.  The cockpit shots is also real interesting to see what it actually looked like.  Thanks Mark.
