HGW wet transfers

Recommended Posts

A couple of questions...

I have just acquired a set of HGW wet transfer stencils for my Mossie build. The instructions state you must use "Mr Mark Softer" on the model before adding the decal.

Has anyone tried Micro sol or set with this product? I don't have Gunze Mr Mark setter or softener.

I would also like to know if you need to gloss coat first, (X-22)?

Thanks

I have tried them...Tam. Mustang stencils....Was sorta hit and miss for me,using Micro set..being honest we were not all that impressed, gave up on them and finished with Barracuda decals.

I would suggest testing some using different solvents first and see how you make out.

    Cheers Bill.

I have used them only a little on my Ta-154 build, so far I have only used them in the cockpit as all the I/P dials are transfers, Microsol was used and worked very well, I think I left them for around 4-5 hours before removing the facing film and they worked very well.........however I am concerned about using them when it comes to applying the markings as I really don't want any disasters and would prefer to use a mix of paint masks and just use the stencil data wet transfers only.

I always apply a gloss coat before applying decals. Always. Just not worth the risk otherwise, to me anyway.

I think the decal setting solutions are much of a likeness. They all do the same job, every decal I've applied I've used Micro-sol & Micro-set, and that's all sorts of decals.

For instance, Wingnut Wings advice the use of no decal solution whatsoever, but I always use them with absolutely no problems.

So, personally, I'd put down a layer of X22 & then use Micro-sol.

Thanks for all your tips guys. I have bought some Mr Mark Softer and have used it with great results.

I've only done the fuel and oil tank decals on my Mossie, over a thin coat of future on the silver oil tanks and X-22 on the fuel tanks. They really do look painted on with no carrier whatsoever. They also pulled down well over the rivets on the oil tanks.

I think these could be the future for stencil decals??
