TTail Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 Just broke too late ... this was a Sandgrooper exercise out of Perth 1983/84 as I recall. Artful69, mpk and Kagemusha 3

ericg Posted August 28, 2016 Author Posted August 28, 2016 Great gunsight pics! Must have been a real hoot participating in those exercises! Mike I reckon it would have been. Slightly less mundane flying that I get to do! Here is a pic of Sean looking a bit younger, in the most unassuming pose ever to be seen of a fighter pilot standing next to a jet. Maybe he can fill in some detail regarding the picture? Some more work on the panel. Now that I had the 2 main parts of the IP sorted out, it was time to get the radar panel into position. I used my microchisel (and if you don't have one of these yet, get one!) to hollow out the area in which the radar screen was about to be placed. The benefits of starting the panel again have now paid off as everything is in the right position. It was time to re-do the Bezu ball, turned in my dremel from some plastic rod. I have slightly beveled the hole in the panel to give it the same look as the real one. I added the radar glare protector (left over from my previous attempt) A front on shot which has allowed me to compare to the reference photos that I have. Pretty close. I still have many more details to add to the panel. MikeMaben, mpk, jgrease and 6 others 9
GMK Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Great work, as always, Eric. Thought this tale of a wheels up Mirage IIIO landing may be of interest: http://www.qam.com.au/qam-content/aircraft/mirage/wheels-up.htm

TTail Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Image taken in 1977 as I recall as a brand new Plt Off (A "Boggy" ) with 77Sqn. This was my first posting post 2OCU. I think this was just after I was asked by Cleo magazine to do the nude centrefold so was practicing suave poses. Panel is coming along fantastically. Whitey, Shawn M and ericg 3
Kais Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 "I think this was just after I was asked by Cleo magazine to do the nude centrefold so was practicing suave poses."Thanks for that Sean, I just snorted coffee all over my monitor. Most unbecoming allusions, especially from one of Australia's "Finest"!!
TTail Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 What do you mean "One of Australia's Finest" Kais ..... there is only one ! Whitey 1
Artful69 Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 (edited) Just broke too late ... this was a Sandgrooper exercise out of Perth 1983/84 as I recall. We're Sandgropers ... I'd be a little worried about being a 'grooper' - sounds too much like being a target!! Rog Edited August 29, 2016 by Artful69
Tanker459 Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 Eric, Coming along nicely Very NICE indeed / GREAT work Continuing to watch with what else you have planned for the model Greg
Whitey Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 What do you mean "One of Australia's Finest" Kais ..... there is only one ! Steely eyed fighter pilot.
ericg Posted August 29, 2016 Author Posted August 29, 2016 Some more work on the panel. Although it doesn't look much, a large amount of extra parts has gone into this part since the last update. I have a few more switches and buttons to add, and lots more wiring. Shawn M, Dragon, jgrease and 2 others 5
