Need to get the engine completed and closed up up next, decals performed superbly with micro set/ sol so very happy.

Great and smooth paint.  What brand are you using?

My go to paint has always been Tamiya acrylics which I have used on this one as usual. I always thin the paint quite heavily and most importantly add X-22 clear at a ratio of 1 to 1 to the paint prior to adding thinner. Always works well for me and get a nice smooth finish. Prior to adding decals I then spray Tamiya X-22 clear again quite heavily thinned which leaves a perfect gloss to add decals to and then go on and weather.

Very, very nice- and different!  Great job.

Cheers,

Chuck

Thank you Chuck, one of Tamiyas' finest and just fancied something a little different. Got to say I'm pleased I've gone down this route as she definitely looks a little different.

  • 3 weeks later...

Working through the last pieces of assembly prior to weathering and the main sub assembly to be completed is the engine, I'm not a huge fan of building engines particularly radials but very happy with it so far.

Dry fitted in position as the glue for exhaust alignment etc goes off. Still plenty to do but definitely getting there.

I've now managed to complete the engine and reasonably happy with the results in the end

I've purchased the Eduard Brassin cowl set as I really liked the look of the set and especially the detail on the open cowl ring.

Sadly the fit of this set is awful, badly thought out and a waste of money! I've used plenty of  Brassin sets on other builds and always been super impressed with the fit and quality.

Neither foward of rear cowl fit at all well as they are oversize and coupled with that the interior detail of the two engine covers doesn't give a clean/ smooth fit even when assembled without the engine inside. Such a shame as the detail was superior.

No problems with the fit of the Tamiya parts so I'll get these painted up and fitted as I want to get this over the line now after several visits to the sod, all my own making of course!
