Muddi
Hey, I decided to build Revells new Fw 190 F-8. There is a lively debate about the pros and cons of this kit going on and I am curious how it builds up. Please feel free to critique and comment what I am doing, I am always eager to improve my skills and knowledge! I plan on doing "<â—„ Green 1" of III./SG 1, flown by Karl Schrepfer, August 1944. There is a nice picture of it on p.761 in Smith/Creek Fw190 vol.3 with all of its engine cowling panels dismantled and the gun cowling cover flipped to the back. I'll try to recreate that look using the engine thats supplied with the kit. I think I'll try some new (to me) techniques and some small improvements while building the kit. There are already some excellent reviews of this kit, so I won't bother you with pics of the sprues... The Box: WIP_Fw190F-8_001 by bastelnvormbalkon, auf Flickr Fuselage halfes painted with Gunze RLM 66. Ejector marks won't be seen once the cockpit tub is in place: WIP_Fw190F-8_002 by bastelnvormbalkon, auf Flickr The cockpit tub. I thinned down the rudder pedals, attached some styrene straps, built a map-case out of aluminum foil on the right, two attachment points for the seatbelts above the seat (copper wire), replaced the throttle lever with a leftover Aires part and opened up the fairing in front of the control stick... WIP_Fw190F-8_003 by bastelnvormbalkon, auf Flickr First stage of painting. For the first time I tried MiG-productions "scratches effect" to achieve some wear. I am not that happy with the result, as the surface is not as smooth as I wanted it to be... any suggestions how to apply that stuff? Paints: Gunze, ModelMaster: WIP_Fw190F-8_004 by bastelnvormbalkon, auf Flickr I'll replace the control stick with an Aires one as the Revell one doesn't look too convincing. Once assembled you won't see a lot of the cockpit, but the stick will be quite prominent. The Revi 16 gunsight will be replaced with a quickboost one as I do not want to carve out the Revell one. And I assembled the RBproductions seatbelts because they are beautiful... WIP_Fw190F-8_005 by bastelnvormbalkon, auf Flickr Revell decals for the intruments and cockpit side panels and some aftermarket ones: WIP_Fw190F-8_006 by bastelnvormbalkon, auf Flickr The instrument panel. I used the revell decals (cut apart) for the upper part, as this won't be seen anyway once the cockpit is inside the fuselage. The ammunition indicator on the upper left was painted, the Revell decal is red. For the panel below I used the already mentioned aftermarket ones. The IP is not ready yet, there will be a wash and some microscale crytal clear for the instrument faces. WIP_Fw190F-8_007 by bastelnvormbalkon, auf Flickr This is where I am right now. Decals and some Eduard placards in place. WIP_Fw190F-8_008 by bastelnvormbalkon, auf Flickr Next up, finishing the IP, (re-)attaching the throttle lever, adding seatbelts, washing(s) and flat coat, then joining the fuselage halves. DeanKB
Looks most impressive. Those seatbelts really look great. Interesting that you thinned the pedals - do you think the seat maybe needs thinning?

Muddi
Thanks for the interest, gentlemen. Looks most impressive. Those seatbelts really look great. Interesting that you thinned the pedals - do you think the seat maybe needs thinning? I think you're right. Next time maybe Small update: After a flat coat I put a drop crystal clear on the instruments. Now waiting for it to cure. WIP_Fw190F-8_009 by bastelnvormbalkon, auf Flickr The finished cockpit. Seatbelts in place. And some more dirt: WIP_Fw190F-8_011 by bastelnvormbalkon, auf Flickr Next step: Joining the fuselage halves... philtn, Out2gtcha, Ralph-D and 1 other

Muddi
Thanks for the feedback. Some more progress... The IP is finished. The Revi-Gunsight will be added later as I have the habit of breaking and losing small things during assembly WIP_Fw190F-8_012 by bastelnvormbalkon, auf Flickr The wheel-wells are a multiple part construction, but everything fits quite nicely and only a small amount of mr. surfacer was used. The details are convincing. Revells idea of glueing a solid plastic part with integrated wing-spar to the wing is really great as it provides stability (including for the connection points of the in-flight-stand) and guarantees the right dihedral of the wings... WIP_Fw190F-8_013 by bastelnvormbalkon, auf Flickr WIP_Fw190F-8_014 by bastelnvormbalkon, auf Flickr I decided to open up the side cowling panels. They are opened on the one pic (that I know of) of the specific plane that I try to recreate. WIP_Fw190F-8_015 by bastelnvormbalkon, auf Flickr Joining the fuselage halves. Fit is nice. Seams will be cleaned later... WIP_Fw190F-8_016 by bastelnvormbalkon, auf Flickr WIP_Fw190F-8_017 by bastelnvormbalkon, auf Flickr The cowling panels that I seperated are attached to the fuselage by a piano hinge. They fold to the wing and the interior will be quite visible. So I tried to recreate some structural details on the inside. It is by far not as sophisticated as so many other stuff on this forums. Learning by doing... Thinning the kit parts, rivet-tool, styrene strip, some leftover-PE and wire. WIP_Fw190F-8_018 by bastelnvormbalkon, auf Flickr Thanks for looking.
