Juggernut
Yes, F4U-1 birdcage corsairs had DDG cockpits and the change to Interior green came into production as the first -1A's (raised cockpit) aircraft were being introduced. On -1A's and into the -1D production, dull dark green could be found on subassemblies (Bell, pg. 5). There are no FS numbers for WWII aircraft, only later, more modern equivalents. There was no Federal Standard (FS) system in WWII, ANA being the common specification. That's why you'll see colors called out as ANA601, etc. Jennings is correct in that the current FS595b 34092 is as close to dull dark green as you can get out of a bottle. The former White Ensign Colorcoats line of paint had the exact shade but it is currently out of production. The word is that these paints may be reintroduced in the near future so if you can wait awhile (how long is anyone's guess) you may be able to get the exact shade but lacking that, the 34092 color will suffice. Check out the Steelnavy.com forum. There was a post there a week or so back from one of the former owners of White Ensign about the line being sold and reintroduced by the new owner very soon. Since the paint line was primarily geared towards ship modelers, I'd recommend watching that site and modelwarships.com for Colourcoats updates, as that's where it will likely be first announced. I just hope they do away with those horrible Hubrol-ish tins! Bob
