Mals Way, Corsair, USS Bunker Hill, Carrier Deck, Part II.

Yeah the exhaust stream starts off intially trapped in the laminar flow, but separates quite abruptly away into the turbulent flow when it reaches the trailing edge of the intercooler flap. One of those many nuances with airflow and what not.....

Those pics depict the exhaust streak about as well as any could.

Allright.....Landing gear needs treatment....

For theese next steps so far ive only used Tamiya washes black, grey and brown.

Now pinwashing..mixed up a grey wash...to make details pop out...

Now brown wash at the movable joints and shafts and light on piston....and places where grease gunk collects

Some minor adjustements needed.....before

Next stop...,,,,namely oil colors...subtle and layers...to make it alive..

Very nice work on the exhaust stains Mal........one thing I noticed on those b/w pictures is I think that corsair has odd mismatched tires fitted.......adds a little interst maybe.

Regards. Andy

Yes the tire mismatch would highlight the issues with the earliest corsairs.

The oleo compression and rebound issues that VF17 and Vought worked through

To carrier qualify the corsair.

Also Cmdr Tommy Blackburn had a running bet about not blowing too many tires

That he later collected on during the Empress Augusta Bay CAP.

This is mentioned in the book "The Jolly Rogers".

Very nice job on your corsair Mal.

You have done a great job documenting your work as well.

Cheers

Jon

Oilpaints.....preussian blue on the piston......very very veru diluted so it shimmering, since oil do that...and hudralic oilgunk that piled up after a wile and rinning down the poston housing (i Think its called that), and greas on some joints.....

Maybe not right...but it looks cool, and will do just fine for me....also got a uestion about the brake line, well i Think back then they were oversprayed on the assebly line, they didnt seem to mask them of, as these Aircraft came in sections, and found one photo that seems to confirm this....but hey this is pure qualified guessing, and after many hard landings i Think they were replaced and then off course black......
