North Korean Ki-43 Oscar *Done*

Recommended Posts

This aircraft was reportedly seen at Phenian (Pyongyang) airfield around 1950 in a derelict condition. The profile is based on the memories of those who saw it. I'm not sure what colour I'll paint it, it could have been repainted or just left in it's Japanese paint with NK makings. Also much thanks to forum member Tim Carroll for supplying a surplus kit for me.

There's no doubt that a lot of Japanese equipment was left in Korea after the war. Ki-84's, Ki-43's, Ki-51's and others, some even surviving years as seen below, so the idea of a Ki-43 being left derelict on an airfield is at least plausible.

What a cool idea...wish I'd thought of it!

Lord knows, there was a lot of ex-Japanese stuff laying around in Asia post 1945.  I think even the French used some of them in Vietnam.

Well it's Easter and there isn't much to do, so during a binge of movie watching that included all 3 Indiana Jones movies (there are ONLY 3), Short Circuit and now The Last Starfighter, I did some modelling. I also walked 5km this morning so I'm not totally being lazy.

Lots of gluing and cutting so it's not all that exciting I'm afraid. I need some seat belts and to find a spinner as the kit didn't have one, but that might not be an issue as I have an idea for a little base and to model the aircraft in a rather dilapidated state, so leaving off the spinner, landing light cover and I might even drill out some instruments to show it's been cannibalized a little. Oh and flat tires.

Hi

if you look closer , the main job is in the cockpit ,(except the paint scheme)... you need the Eduard PE sheet , and some wires , I really don't think it's so "hard"  to achieve ...I understand , his paint job in this cockpit is outstanding , that's eye- catching !!!!

I think I'll just add some seat belts. I've become pretty lazy with cockpits, it's rare you see them on the shelf anyway.

I know Jennings, I already put that reminder in the chat thread. I've never seen a picture of it either and I've been actually looking for years.

Ok I haven't forgotten about this, I've just been lazy. Anyways, a little paint on the interior and if anyone has a good tip on how to age a canopy, yellowed/frosted etc let me know, since this is going to be a bit of a derro aircraft. The Mirage is for another thing.
