my record in the last two GBs ist not stellar, the huey ist still not progressing

at least the superbugs gets things done, but i just have to join the Korean war GB

i had to choose from a skyraider, an F-86 and a Mig 15 and picked the latter

trumpy kit - that was given to me from my good friend Heinz (Vulkan 32)

greymatter tail

squadron canopy

G-factor struts

eduard PE

Aeromaster "Korean war Mig Aces" (we will see what i use, i will have to do the bort number myself)

i am aware of the AMS pit and i would love to have one, but funds are just not permitting at the moment.

i also read there are some resin wheels, but i couldnt find them yet

reading some build articles the fit of the kit is always metioned as beenig pretty bad, so i will combat this first.

i started with cutting off the vertical stabilizer to fit the resin tail

if you put the kit tail on the resin part you see the difference :o

the removable tailsection is the prime reason for the bad fuselage fit. since i dont like removable parts i decided to glue front and back fuseparts together to get two comlete halves. some sanding at the joint beforehand made this task easier and gave a decent fit. i used double sided tape to keep both parts in the right position and glued them together

i will leave these to dry for a week or so and maybe ad some reinforcingstrips on the inside later, as well as the kit bulkhead

then i will adress the wingroot and wing fit to not have any suprises later.

in the meantime i will read "red devils over the Yalu" by Igor Seidov :D

Profimodeller of Czech is making the wheels. Plus a lot of other Mig--15 stuff. Decals too (just search both "mig-15" and "mig15" at the homepage)

There are some sets of replacement guns available, both in brass and resin. Worth a look given the prominent size and location of the Mig guns. Some brass sets also come with pitot tubes and antenna sockets, which are always nice to have.

Nice to see you in this GB Karl. Trumpeters kit is not an easy kit to build, but it can be a decent starting point for decent replica of Mig-15. Let me know if you need anything.

Cheers

Martin

here is an example from E-day 2005

  • 2 weeks later...

if the top fits the bottom shows a huge gap in front of the wheelwell, going to have to investigate the dihedral.

the slot in the fuselage to mount the wing has been widened to be able to tilt the wing a few degrees to get better fit.

stay tuned
