Loic
Here are some pics to illustrate where I stand :: First, the basic shape of the engine (I will only make the rear section) made from laminated styren again. It is not complete at all .. Then the end pieces: turbine and after burner injector: Now, one of the many try out to reproduce corregations : tin/alu can formed on purpose made template. That is what it looks like when put all together: And finally when the all assembly is fitted into the fuselage: I really think that the corregation looks great but there are only 16 of them when the real thing has 18... Still alot of things to add all over the place so I need to go back to the bench I guess Thanks for following !! flankers
Hi Inside the ATAR has 30 corrugated. Those who are 18 are the outer petals. About 15 years ago I made an ATAR 9C 1/48 but not finished. Through this experience I would say that one way would be to build 30 rods in a circle and forming them go 5 corrugated sheets so that they are sorted. As in this graph. regardsDony Loic, Menelaos, Kagemusha and 2 others
Loic
Hi guys, first of all, thanks for all the kind words and help. Raf, thanks a lot for the link, very usefull indeed Dony, good point ! I was all head over feet when I first read your comment and thought: well, MY ref says there are only 18 corregations... so I double checked and... there are 30... (insert face palm emoticon here) all the the other parts come by batches of 18 pieces BUT the corregations... Sooo... I feel a bit stupid here but I must say I should have better checked / count... Thanks a million for the head up This all said (I have to be very cautious when I talk now ) I think I can see different after burner system / ring depending wether the engine is mounted on a Mirage III or a Mirage F1. Also, the "rod circle" idea sounds good as it allows to master both number of corregation and diametre but also, it would help replicate the 5 overlapping layers needed to get the full engine pipe... Many, many thanks Is this forum great? Edited May 12, 2015 by Loic Harold, Volture and flankers
fastzx
Loic, Don't forget Pi... You can still build your corrogations flat and then insert rolled up. Dia of scale afterburner X 3.14 divided by 30 corrogations. Yes? Jon Loic

Loic
Hi Jon, thanks for the kind words I know about Pi but unfortunatly, it does not make the job easier as it gives a "step" of 2.25mm and I find it very difficult to control the 0.25 bit. When you multiply this 0.25 x 30 it can make 7.5mm difference in the end .... in other words, an extra 4 corregation. That was actually my first idea an try out The more it goes, the more I belive I will have to run one heavy test/adjust/test/etc... session on this part. I have a day off tomorrow so I guess I know what I will do
