xmh53wrench 810 Posted February 28, 2015 Thank you very much thierry laurent, I have never seen a tweak list on any kit before. Very useful, informative and well thought out, all the extra work is greatly appreciated. I hope to one day add a pair of these kits to my stash. I would love to build an Allison Mustang one of these days, and would love to do up a diorama of a very early Mustang broke down in a shipping crate. Thanks again for all the research and the education. 1 Harold reacted to this
thierry laurent 4,250 Posted February 28, 2015 Thanks a lot for your comments! Indeed, I should think twice about requesting financial support from aftermarket companies as finally I'm promoting THEIR business ;-) Eclipse released the fishtail set but unfortunately it is not appropriate for the A-36. As I wrote, there were a lot of small differences between those early marks. For the spinner, converting any of the P-51D Greymatter sets is probably the easiest solution if you do not have an old Hasegawa Mustang in the attic or want to build multiple Allison-engined kits. For the wheels, the cheap True details wheels are OK unless you need another type of tire. In such a case, there are other options (Barracuda, sinifer,etc.). thierry laurent 4,250 Posted February 28, 2015 Thank you very much thierry laurent, I have never seen a tweak list on any kit before. Thanks. Just have a look at the pinned "tweak list" topic pinned at the top of this forum and you will find the other ones!
thierry laurent 4,250 Posted February 28, 2015 Hi, I made a correction. I removed this line :"The A-36 had a small door located behind the port exhausts. Scribe it.". Indeed, it is ALREADY on the kit! Thierry
thierry laurent 4,250 Posted March 2, 2015 Ok, it is the time of another correction! "The kit has the small door located behind the port exhausts but the very obvious hinge located at the rear is not present. Refer to pictures to detail the area". And regarding the small divots intended to replicate the cowling fasteners on the nose: "Note that it is recommended to refer to pictures as the number nor the location is fully accurate." dutik 3,468 Posted March 2, 2015 Great work But the choosen font is awful small. May I ask to set it to a larger font size? - dutik
thierry laurent 4,250 Posted March 2, 2015 Well Dutik, the original file has Arial 10 text but this has been converted when uploaded. Don't forget you have a zoom function in all browsers ;-)
thierry laurent 4,250 Posted March 2, 2015 As there were questions regarding the nose modification, here is the difference. I used a spinner from an old Hasegawa kit and realized that I could put the Hobbycraft one INSIDE the Hasegawa one! This allowed me to show you easily the difference as I simply put the Hobbycraft spinner tip over its rear section (inside the Hasegawa one) and the Hasegawa tip over its rear section on the second picture. Putting the Hobbycraft part inside the Hasegawa one has a major benefit: no problem to position correctly the larger spinner! I think that pictures are rather self-explanatory! LSP_Kevin 27,072 Posted March 2, 2015 But the choosen font is awful small. May I ask to set it to a larger font size? Hopefully I can convince Thierry to publish this one on the website when its compilation is completed! Kev 1 dutik reacted to this

LSP_K2 20,412 Posted March 2, 2015 Good going so far. Just out of curiosity, is the Accurate Miniatures A-36,... accurate?
thierry laurent 4,250 Posted March 2, 2015 Regarding the nose specific matter, I'd say no as the Hobbycraft is an enlarged copy of the Accurate Miniatures one! Note that this is the only major dimension issue I identified. However, some errors are not so obvious when the kit is smaller. Another very good example of this is the Trumpeter Corsair II. It was bashed for its squashed canopy and too pointy nose whereas it is looks like an enlarged copy of the 1/48th Hasegawa kit for which I never read similar complaints! thierry laurent 4,250 Posted March 9, 2015 Another addendum: Fill the small panel line going through each airbrake actuator on the upper wings. Remove the line of divots behind the airbrake and replace them by flush rivets. Note that if the number of them is correct; their location is not accurate. Refer to scale plans or pictures. David66 311 Posted January 19, 2018 Great work, this will be very useful when I get around to building my P-51, P-51A and A-36. I believe that there is a guy on here, Thunda, that is producing corrected spinners for these kits.
