I plan to display the big Felix in a diorama setting showing the aircraft preparing for a patrol in the last days of the war.

I constructed the base from medium density fibreboard and pine, stained it walnut and then modified the Italeri long dock to make the sea wall.

Eventually the aircraft will be sitting on a wooden ramp but for now a rag will do!20150419_145906_zpsk8sqs201.jpg

A close up, the engines are dry fitted

To start the water effects I glued down the roughest grade of watercolour paper available, the close up shows the dimples that this paper has which will be the starting point for creating the water20150420_114252_zpsion0fcfg.jpg

Cheers all,

Mike, the working area of the base is 1 meter x 1/2 meter, it expands beyond that a little with the wood mouldings but the above dimensions is the actual diorama area.

Thanks for looking in

Cheers

Brent

More progress.

I completly painted the beaching trolly and woodgrained it by painting it with Gunz radome followed by raw umber oil paint which was manipulated with a wide brush to produce the wood grains.20150501_122624_zpsrvcfbkaj.jpg

Although the above pic shows a bottle of Vallejo chipping fluid, I actually covered the part in regular hairspray before painting battleship grey.

A wet brush was then used to remove selected parts of the grey revealing the "wood" beneath.

I then applied washes using flory dark dirt and mig streaking grime, along with decals the trolly was complete20150508_124012_zpsdfrbr4nz.jpg20150508_124109_zpsjtfjmgxt.jpg20150508_124143_zpshzp8vzz6.jpg

I have now added the engines and centre wing section which was rigged with ezi-line and Bobs Buckles, all went together well but attaching the centre wing wad heart stopping to say the least!!20150512_141544_zpshrfnnp6q.jpg20150512_141603_zpsqazhjnkg.jpg20150512_141659_zps0tyqsafx.jpg20150512_141849_zpsqwxzxsc9.jpg20150512_141924_zps3c2oeulo.jpghttp://i1331.photobucket.com/albums/w585/brentsimpson67/20150512_141958_zpso1ssvih9.jpghttp://i1331.photobucket.com/albums/w585/brentsimpson67/20150512_142017_zpsler8rjb6.jpg

I hope to have the wings on in a day or so, the finish line is in sight.

Thanks for stopping in!
