Looks amazing  ;)

Cheers mate - thanks for looking in

Taff

Awesome! Fantastic progress on the front offcie and the IP is amazing.

Keep 'em coming

Peter

Thanks Peter - Yep I like the IP shame about the Radar screens! Working on the twins at the moment so am really lookig forward to getting this bits done and seal hear up.

Nice work Taff! This kit certainly is a challenge.

Kev

Cheers mate - You bet she can be a challenge, I'm finding it a bit bizarre some bits you could drive a bus through the joints other bits just fit nice and tight - But we all like a challenge don't we  :hmmm:

Yep, I remember having a bit of a love/hate thing going on when I built mine. I was proud of some aspects of it, less so with others. If I was more into the subject, I'd have another go. Maybe one day I'll strip it and repaint it.

Yours was one of the ones that came up on my research searches - Looked pretty darn good to me. In fact you don't seem to see many of these built.

Looky, looky.

I actually got some work done on  wheels for it.

Not perfect, but better than the ones in the box.

Very nice mate - Not perfect looks pretty darn good to me and a country mile from the kit bits

Happy Days -  Taff :D

Harold, you are killing me...I've got your seats, are you going to be selling the wheels?  Or maybe we can trade for some of my resin.

Iffin' they cast well enough tomorrow, (they are in rubber right now)] I will post them right here.

I will offer them to the LSPers first, then later to be retailed.

PM m...I might be interested in some resin.

Yeah, it would take SLR to make them more accurately, but I don't have a printer (yet).

Hi All  - Thanks to all for looking in and the encouragement. Harold love the look of the wheels shame mine is wheels up – id be chuffed to put them on her.

I have been pushing this one on a bit so let see what I have been up to………

With all the bits done for the cockpit it's time to sort out the twins and put them into technicolour not much cop at figure painting so if you want to see it done properly I would look away now! Then go look at the wonders that Jerry does. So back to my efforts – uhhhhmmmm :hmmm: but they say practice, practice and more practice

026-SeaVenomFAW22_zps45a8b9e6.jpg

My home-made straps – these where cut out of the foil wrap from some 10A blades and the other bits and bobs where some scraps of plastic. Nowhere near accurate but at least they will look like they are strapped in. The oxygen hose where made from a bit of single core electric wire with some very thin cooper wire, from some multi core electric wire, wrapped tightly around it. This was then a given a good couple of coats of paint to blend and soften the ridges.

Be kind please. I am trying to learn to do figures – and I am trying to do the mantra - practice, practice! Plus, in a bit of defence, the twins are showing their age you can tell this is an older style kit.

Okay what has seemed like ages it's time to finally put their front office together – :piliot: AHHHHHHHH! The twins can take their front row seats at last.

027-SeaVenomFAW22_zpsa427161f.jpg

Viewed from the back. I also thought I would add some colour to the hats. Just to try and break up the overload of black.

028-SeaVenomFAW22_zpsc7350883.jpg

I rigged up some Heath Robinson construction to hold my rudder peddles. Something crude as it will never been seen once its sealed up. Just had to put a 50's / 60's porn stare moustache on the co-pilot  - couldn't resist it!!!! :wicked:

With the twins now in place it was time to put the pit in place and go for the seal-up of the fuselage…….

........... And so the fighting begins!

No matter what I do now that everything is stuck I couldn't get the two half's to meet!!! I even resorted to a bit of grunt but I was starting to put so much pressure on it I could feel bits inside starting to creak. It went together like a dream before I stuck everything – :hmmm: uhmmmm thinking…. That might be because it was all held in place with bluetac and tape so bits can move and give as I squeezed the two sides together, and I didn't notice.

I could get the bottom to meet but no way is the top going to. No squeezing, squishing, pushing or bad language! I just can't see what is holding it apart. So in anticipation of future issues and to give it a stronger joint and something to support some filler I made some large tabs and stuck them along one side.

Then with a lot holding, squeezing and tape and a prayer or two! ……..

029-SeaVenomFAW22_zpsd0c78a78.jpg

……… This is as close as I can get it.

032-SeaVenomFAW22_zps8896c89f.jpg

Not pretty in fact very ugly – sudden panic :frantic: does the glass fit?  :crying: Nope…… sugar and other appropriate words! Can't get it to sit centre – looks like one of the improvements on the chair is holding it away

030-SeaVenomFAW22_zpsc2e8a9a0.jpg

I had a good think and there is nothing for it – It will have to be clipped off.

033-SeaVenomFAW22_zps92b1c64c.jpg

Was wondering if it was this that was holding the tops apart. So as the glue was still not set I gave it another squeeze……. But nothing doing must be something else.

034-SeaVenomFAW22_zps41bd8c57.jpg

Okay that's better and not too big of a gap at the bottom. Now looking at it you wouldn't see to much of the now clipped offending object, the bottom of the canopy is quite think so much of it would have been hidden anyway.

okay folks first bit back with more in a mo

Okay Back

So whilst this is drying ready for fill and rubbing back I moved on to some of the other bits –

The tail plane

As this is going to be an in flight pose. The pose is a climb banking roll kind of thing….. As if he is climbing away from a launch off of the carrier……. I hope that makes sense. I'm sure it will come clear as this project goes on.

So the tail plane needs some work to articulate it – so first up was the cut it up stage. A thin strip of plastic was stuck to the front edge and rubbed into shape. I also stuck some plastic strip inside the main wing part. As this was now sinking in the middle as there was nothing left to support it. This also allowed me to put a recessed arc shape in it to receive the tails planes flappy bit.

But by moving this into the up position, means that I now need to do some thing with the actuators that sit underneath. I couldn't find any pictures of this in the up pose so I had to second-guess what it looks like. So as the kit part is….. well some kind of vague static shape. So out with knives and file. A bit of chopping and sticking and eventually I got this. A bit fatter than the kit part but I can live with that!

025-SeaVenomFAW22_zps95f448b2.jpg

Okay just need to do another one.

The next bit that I need to take a look at is the tail bit of the fuselage That goes over the jet pipe. The kit just gives you a hollow area that you can see up to the insides. This is not what you see in reality! Plus not pretty in there with lots of glue and bits to try and secure the engine – which will be taking the weight when it's mounted. Okay after some thinking and trail and error, bending and heating etc I finally got this

035-SeaVenomFAW22_zps51971dc3.jpg

But I did give it some paint and weathering, as it will be a PIA to paint once it's stuck in place. Still need to do some filling, faring and faffing in before its finished. This will be done with it in stuck in place on the fuselage.

038-SeaVenomFAW22_zpsa0e3a806.jpg

Next bit to get the make over was the deck that is behind the Twins.

This is left blank by the kit – apart from what I think is some kind of oil tank. So of coarse when you look at the actual aircraft there is loads of stuff going on in this area. I am not going to do it 100% accurate, way out of my league, but I will do some thing, wire, plastic bits and the excellent Airscale brass bits to add a bit of texture and interest.

This is my efforts after quite a few hours of trail and error.

The Starboard side

036-SeaVenomFAW22_zps69b04576.jpg

The Port side

037-SeaVenomFAW22_zps168a70a3.jpg

After some paint, will be to add some pin wash and a bit of weathering but looks okay to me! Also added a gun sight. Couldn't find any in the kit so nicked one from my Hunter as I am going to use a resin set for that plane. Seemed a bit big for the cockpit but it will do!

You also can see where I am starting to repair the gaps in the wing joints. Once again I couldn't get them to seal up any better than this….. Me or is it the kit I don't know. Others seemed to get them to fit okay, from the bits I have seen around the web – so must be just my ham-fisted skills. Or lack of skills! You can see my painting of the back deck area….. ooohhhhh nearly scary time to put the canopy on. But then you look at the amount of filling, rubbing back and repeat – and repeat, that my be a bit off yet.

039-SeaVenomFAW22_zps1b2d2832.jpg

Side view plus another look at the wing joint – more Superglue and talc needed! I seem to be using a ton of these on this project.

040-SeaVenomFAW22_zpsa37e8c09.jpg

Well that was a bit of a bigun update!

Have started to fill and smooth in the wing joints and they have some Mr Surface 1000 on them to blend them in. But no pics at the moment I will try to put some up in the next couple of days.

Talking Mr Surface – I see a lot of folks around here spraying this on with their airbrushes. I have tried this with not much success – what are you guys using to thin it down……. Please tell me your secrets?

:help:

Also does anyone out there have any 1/32 Firestreak missiles, from most probably the Trump lighting, that you are not going to use? If you do and you would like to give them a new home please give me a shout! A friend at our club gave me some but they turned out to be Red Tops Doh!!!! Any help in this quest would be much appreciated!

So till next time happy plastic bashing and thanks for looking in

Cheers all – And happy days Taff :D

Excellent work Taff! You're really turning this into something special.

Kev

Cheers Kevin - Still fighting the good fight with this one. Think it's going to be held together with filler by the time shes finished.

GREAT stuff Taff!  Really some hard nosed old school modeling on this one..............great job, and looking forward to more.  :D

Yep Brian old style model needs a lot of TLC to get her together!

Wow, that cockpit looks cramped!

Yep Lee sure is! Think it's De havilland trait design and make a plane then uhhhhhhmmm pilots  - are just put them in there! That'll do! The seats where a special MB light weight design for the Venom!

Taff

Super work and glad all that muscle and talent put you over the top.

Keep 'em coming

Peter

Cheers Peter - hope to put some more up this week.

Taff,

Astounding workmanship. .. you are creating a fabulous build.
