Tony T
Have a back-up Trumpeter Su-27 which I'm looking to convert over 2-3 years as a back-boiler project. The front runners are a Su-34 Fullback or, less ambitious, a Su-33 Sea Flanker. Are there any good plans out there which are freely available (in both senses of the word) ? TIA Tony
Tony T
So far, these are the best I've stumbled across... Looking for something similar for the Su-33, which is probably the more realistic option. Tony Derek B
Zero77
I love the Su-34 (actually i love all side by side 2 seaters), a real resin conversion would be great, as i dont think i have the skills to build one from scratch. The special main landing gear and the nose and canopy shape would be quite hard to make.
Zactoman
Have you seen the new 1/48 Su-33 kit that's coming soon? More details here: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Aviation-Art-Model-Kits/631889120233691 and here: http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index.php?showtopic=268873 We just got the test shots and ... Wow! As far as Su-33 drawings, there are none that are really accurate, but this set is the best starting point: http://www.airwar.ru/other/draw/su33aiv.html For drawings of other aircraft: Fighters : http://www.airwar.ru/other/draw_fn.html Bombers and attack : http://www.airwar.ru/other/draw_an.html (including some for the Su-34) Other : http://www.airwar.ru/other/draw_on.html Cheers, Chris

Tony T
Thanks everyone! After further assessment, as the Fullback seems to share only the tail fins and engine nozzles with the Flanker B I'm inclined to go down the Sea Flanker route (which means hacking up another Revell Eurofighter's clear parts for the windshield). The changes seem confined to mainplane chord, the folds, forward canards and extended wing roots, NLG, hook and tail stinger. If I hadn't invested so much money and emotional energy in 1/32 the new 1/48 Su-33 would be top of my list. However, as it looks delightful I might buy one anyway and use it as a pattern for DIY parts for the biggie ! The Russian stuff is getting ever more impressive in quarter inch scale; any MiG-21 you want, the mighty MiG-25 and the big Sukhois. Hmm, there may be room for both scales - a Fullback would definitely clinch that. Tony
Youngtiger1
I say you made a great choice. I'll admit I'm being selfish because I too want a sea flanker in our lovely scale and with your skills in play...i'll surly be able to see how it gets done Edited August 2, 2014 by Youngtiger1
Tony T
Mike, Don't know about my skill level, but I think the Su-33 is definitely doable by anyone on LSP. I honestly believe that the ten year old Trumpeter is the best Flanker series we'll see in 1/32. May do spars and frames for a Fullback nose section and see where that goes. As Nicolas pointed out, one of the big "iffy" factors with the Fullback is the canopy and unique, somewhat complex, undercarriage. The wings are bigger in span and chord too, though the absence of wing-fold and the latest "aubergine" finish might hide a few sins. The LG legs would need to be machined from turned aluminium rod and filed pieces of sheet, dressed up with plastic, and the canopy might come from a reinforced section of a Schweppes tonic water bottle. As Chris no longer has the Su-27 Flanker B canopy in production I'll be using cut, reworked sections of the Revell Eurofighter canopy for the Su-27B and Su-33 windshields. Luckily got two in my Revell kit, so that's still on the list if I goof. This is a long-term build(s) but I will post images once I get started, in the not too distant but not immediate future. kaiyudsai
THe Fullback is a whole different animal..different fuse, gear, pit, wings etc... I think you would end up really building the whole plane from scratch since it is so very different that the Su-27... but the Su-33 is certainly a more reasonable conversion. Yes that's the conclusion I came to in post # 10 when I said: "After further assessment, as the Fullback seems to share only the tail fins and engine nozzles with the Flanker B I'm inclined to go down the Sea Flanker route... It's a long-term background project while I build a string of easier subjects. I may get the new 1/48 Sea Flanker to use as a template to scale things up and make changes to the Trumpy kit.
