Hi,

I've started this build a few weeks ago, just when i received the new Werner's wing conversion.

As a starter a few pictures i've shot this summer during a trip in Czech Republic (very nice country, a lot of wonderful places to go, castles, beautiful landscapes, and great museums). Maybe those pictures could help someone as a reference (quite rare for the S-199) :

The resin cockpit included in the conversion is very detailed and crispy, that makes the painting easy. Unfortunately, some tiny parts was broken (i dont know if they were already broken or if i've broken them myself during the sanding), and a few others was too difficult to use as they come (because of the moulding flash). So i have detailed myself especially for the little levers. They are made from spare sheet metal (from PE) and the ball is made with drops of thinned tamiya putty. It works great !

I also had another problem, the rudder pedals were missing, certainly an omission during the packing process. So i took the kit pedals, drilled the weight saving holes, and it was fine.

I've also modified the tail for the tall model (with the conversion parts of cours), and added the large bulges on the wings. I found them a bit thick, so i've carved the wings in order to make them the same level.

Now with a bit of color. I've used for the first time the belts from Radu Brinzan, and they are great. I've tinted them with black ink, and dry brushed them grey. I had no reference for the color of the belts, but on the pictures in the building instructions of the conversion we can see a bit of the belts and they are black. Anyway, it changes from the usual green or tan color.

Exciting build, great start at the fast pace. I will follow with interest.

Just a few notes: the bumps on the left side of the cockpit need to be removed and there is a gun camera housing installed on the leading edge of the left wing, between the fuse and the gear bump. The camera is missing on the museum example, but it was standard for the majority of 199s

Cheers

Martin

Thanks for your comments, and thanks Martin for the drawings !

The color i used for the cockpit is the gunze color for the F-4 phantom cockpit, IIRC. I can confirm this this evening, with the item number of the paint. I think it matches the color i see in the picture on the instructions (kind of bluish grey).
