Al Granger drawings, are these good quality?

Hi all,

I have several issues of the Aerodata series of aircraft such as the B17, B24, Lancaster and Halifax.

Some of these have drawings by Al Granger. The Halifax ones are overall very good, with here and

there some defects.

Does anyone know if these drawings can be used for reference?

Furthermore, there are many many drawings in circulation, what source is the best for us poor

modellers to check accuracy/ AL Bentley comes to mind.

Any others?

Thanks
Cees

Generally I've always regarded Alfred Granger, MISTC, plans as being very good - a draughtsman of the 'old school'.

I've recently been trying to find my B-17 book - but it's hiding somewhere...

I really couldn't prove or diprove the validity of any drawings except taken from the drafting board fo the factory

Its a slippery slope

There are some - like Mr A Bentley whose drawings however i would trust

I agree, problems with factory drawings is that these cannot be trusted too. I have hundreds of copies of Halifax drawings.

These are copied from the originals with which they built 6.178 examples. Even these contradict each other. There are

General Arrangement drawings and detail drawings.

You have to drawn the line somewhere. There are sources of which it is know that these drawings are incorrect,

others can be assumed to be relatively accurate

If Al Granger has the same background as AL Bentley then it's a good thing, but Mr Bently did not draw every type built.

Regarding the HK B17, any idea which drawings were used in the development of this kit?

Jennings,

I agree, having helped building my full size Halifax cockpit these problems showed too.

Having drawings is not entitely a solution, as these are usually not complete

Or are a mix from different marks.

Having a real aircraft avilable is one thing, restored examples pose other problems where

Non standard mods can be incorporated. Almost every airframe differs from the next.

Modellers in that respect can be ( are) the most difficult customers.
