Juggernut Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 Hey Nigel, I knew there was something screwy with the radio room area. You've got half of the sow's ears turned into a silk purse. Take a break for a bit then return. Now you can appreciate why I unloaded my kit. While superficially it looks like a 17, the the kit is way off in many respects as you've discovered, many of which I didn't know about until you found them. I hope their 17F is an entirely new kit or it will be a stinker too.

Turtledeck's off, wing root's off... :hmmm:As mentioned earlier by some of you, they probably had to fiddle around a bit to resemble the overall appearance although some issues are not related to this I'd say. As said earlier this is no nitpicking on the kit! Still aplaud them for taking on this huge challenge and giving me tons of pleasure building it...

Loic Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 As far as I am concerned, even if I fully understand and appreciate the issues on this kit, I have been willing to build a B17 for years and years so all those issues wont prevent me to buy one, should it take 5 years to correct and build it. I think you have done a fantastic work so far and it would be very sad to give up now even if I can understand the burn out feeling you have. Please do not give up on this great build, take a rest for a few days or week and go complete it !! D.B. Andrus 1

Nige is doing a fantastic job correcting those issues, but I think a perfectly fine model will result even if you don't. And FWIW, folks at HK Models do indeed read LSP, though I couldn't say for certain that they're aware of this particular thread. Kev

Now then, how on earth am I going to get this mess back together. Note also the astrodome parts are refitted to the flattened nose, now glued together. Yes!

The cross-section seems alright but may be a tad on the thick side and the angle of incidence looks ok too (at a glance). The location fore-aft seems alright given a cursory glance. I'm curious as to what you're seeing?

All this surgery is paying off, you will find a way to get all those parts back together without a doubt. Keep it up!!
Guest Nigelr32 Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 The B-17 wing should be symmetrical and HKM have portrayed it as a flat bottomed shape, hence the trailing edge falls too low down on the fuselage. Now I've told you Tim, you'll spot it.
