Showtime 100
I'm more interested in the overall quality of the plastic model vs the a/c variants (A, B, D etc). Any and all suggestions and opinions are welcome. Thanks! Edited September 12, 2013 by Showtime

Dave Williams
There are only 3 kits, not 5. Trumpeter, Tamiya, and Revell. Not sure if there was a Revell Germany or Revell/Monogram boxing, but if there was, it would have been the Revell plastic. The Revell kit is in third place. There is some disagreement on whether the Tamiya or Trumpeter kits are better. The Tamiya kit is very old, has a recessed panel line forward fuselage and raised panel line rear, and has decals for the IP and cockpit consoles, which makes replacement of the cockpit almost mandatory, but the shape is good and the landing gear is nicely detailed. The Trumpeter kit is all scribed, has a modern level of detail, but has some shape errors like messed up intakes and too shallow Phoenix pallet front bulges. Of course, both the Revell and Tamiya kits are only A models. If you want a B or a D in the box, you'll have to go Trumpeter.

petrov27
Thought I heard the trump nose was off in shape and tamiya was better - any truth to that? The zactoman replacement intakes for the trump look fantastic though if u haven't seen those Showtime 100
LSP_Mike
....and I heard the Revell cockpit was better than the Tamiya. As far as I know, the Revell 'pit in a Tamiya body is a pretty good F-14; of course you'll have to scribe the aft fuselage...
Lee White
I voted Revell.... 'Cause that's the only one I have in my stash!!! Jack
Dave Williams
I think the Revell pit is only better in the sense of it having traditional raised IP and console detail instead of Tamiya's decals. However, Tamiya's seats are better IIRC.

A Revell model is a Revell model is a Revell model. Correct? So Tamiya didn't update the tooling when they released their later versions of the F-14? I used to own the original 1/32nd scale Tamiya F-14 (Now discontinued) back when they first released it in the early '90's. Tamiya didn't update the molds from the original F-14 to make their newer F-14's? Thanks for your input!
