Time for an update ! Next up was the main thruster.... big honkin' VEN that will be a big feature of the 'Fury. ... it's large and keeping weight down is a factor... don't want too much weight out on the wingtips. The Revell model while not completely accurate certainly caught the look fairly well.

After scratching my brain for a few days I jumped in... a disk cut with my handy dandy circle cutter , some parts cut for the wall angles and platform needed.. positions marked in...

A bit of careful fitting, a dab o' glue and we have the basic shape....

The heavy fins that protrude from the cone to form the mount for the ion veins was cut out.. one in 1/16, one in 1/32 and laminated...

and glued in place..

Strips and wedges were cut from scrap and the sides were planked...

A bit of elbow grease and several grits of sandpaper later....I was rather pleased at how it came out !

Another disc was cut and trimmed to fit...

1/16 sheet cut to a height of 1/8th was cut and placed...

And the disc glued in place...

The edges were angle sanded, then planking began....

Careful sanding & filling with dissolved plastic .. it came out looking pretty good methinks !...

Much more to do on this yet... but things seem to be going well ! That's it for this time !

Hey all... been a while !... A trip back east to see family has had me away but I'm back and at the bench... not a lot to show but whilst back east I found these Dollar Store flashlights...

f03Rqsc.jpg

Broken down they give me the light bells for the rear engines.. just need to be cut down a bit.. plus LED's and 'bits'....

Before I left I tried a mockup of the canopy... a few angles were wrong so a better one is on the bench...

And the backplate for the rear of the fuselage was cut out.... going to be detailed and held on by magnets to allow access to the fuse battery box.

Hopefully I'll have an update in a week or so. Till then, keep sniffin' glue !!

Hi all, update time ! :frantic:.. yup, actually getting stuff done !!

Casting about for 'found' modeling.. (finding things that will work as parts) I discovered screw top bottles of glitter in a Dollar store that are a perfect fit for the tube I need for the VENS. Cut down to size..

Test fitting...

BjqYiZZ.jpg

A disc was cut from clear styrene and a washer made from .060..

eYuBJDv.jpg

And yes.. that drawing is an indicator of the coming madness... everything glued in.

18 tiny detailed fins were cut..

DnQBmVl.jpg

And fitting & gluing began...

RNw1nQs.jpg

All in place...

IUFwCZt.jpg

I tried just laying in a strip of thin styrene but it looked sucky...

piLzbm1.jpg

Thinner strips wrapped around a form and glued made a MUCH better effect !

uzFeeVV.jpg

Test fitting it looks good !

The cut down flashlight bell was glued onto the base of the center detail..

yidTpOt.jpg

With everything lined up the center section was glued in and detailing followed just like the forward VEN..

And finally... a light check... those flashlight bells work a treat !

Now I just gotta make 3 more of these !! :BANGHEAD2:

That's it for this time, Merry Flippin' Ho HO all !!
