Thanks Guys for looking in and the nice comments! Glad you like it so far. :clap2:

Not so much scratching here compared to the Fury! More an adding stuff to enhance or at least trying to improve the brass bits that come in the etch set. And making some of the missing bits.

Yeah Richard I no I can remember reading about those bits in your build – Memory ---- What Memory!!!!

Rich thanks for the heads-up on the 6 site I have contacted them so I hope they might be able to help me with the emblem.

Thanks to all those looking in and commenting – Nice weekend coming up so more external jobs to do but I might be able to move this one on a bit so till next time Happy Modelling

Hi Peeps – Its time, at last for an update. Haven't had the time or the energy lately so the mojo he's a gone at the moment.!!!!! I will try and get him back.

I have now finished the front room and done the weathered look – I am trying for the dirtier look here rather than the thrashed. It looks a lot dirtier in the pics than it does to the eye. Love these digi cameras!!!

Got all the bits together. All the extra PE and wires made this a bit more awkward than my original dry fit. So I did this in a slightly different order to the instructions. I fitted the sides first, then the IP. I then slipped the cross frame under the IP and between the compass and fiddled it into place – with a few curse words finally managed to fix the two points under the chair with some slow fix supper glue. This was then pushed up behind the IP and held with a bit of tape whilst the glue went off.  Next the firewall and the fuel tank – not sure why I fitted this as you not going to see it – but hay more practise with the airbrush!!!!! I do need that.

So the cockpit ready to go

Uhmm bit cuffed with that effort - think I am improving!

Went to the Avon show – took the Fury for it's first outing – I finally coughed up for a PE bending kit. Yeah put the ruler and blade away, just need to learn how to use the thing

014-Hurricane-IID_zps867e6614.jpg

So first attempt with it was on the door for the handhold. Have to say that's a lot easier to use and a lot sharper result – UHHHMMMMM I likely.

Okay on to the cockpit walls. I had all these bits made up it was a case of placing them and weathering. Also note, that thanks to Little Cars at Avon Show I managed to get some of the little lenses the Phill B used – shame I took a flying guess at the sizes so a bit bigger than they should be. But once they are buried in the Pit, you're not going to see loads of them.

I weathered these sides using some Flory Washes and Tamiya weathering kits. It looks really strong in the pics but is a lot subtler to the eye.

Tuther side

Right now time to fit all these bits into the nose.

019-Hurricane-IID_zps6fdac694.jpg

I was going to open the engine up to view – but the Trump engine looks very odd indeed!!! The bottom half looks square! So I was going to do Air-umpter or a Trum-Fix combo with the engine, which I saved from my Spit, build – But most probs age related, I have put it so safe I can't find it – DOHHHH! So plan B this will be a nose hanger – but on the bright side I get to keep the Hurricanes classic good looks!

Moved on to sealing this baby up – The dry fit fitted really well until I got to the nose area – And either me or the PE and my wires, it just wouldn't close. I fiddled faffed, and reverted to strong language, but it just wouldn't go. Next brute force until something creaked and cracked – so I baked off and got it as close as I could and wrapped it in tape then seeped in some liquid supper glue. This left me with both a gap and a slight vertical out of alignment. Ohhhh joy

Okay folks I have already fixed this nose but for some reason did take its mug shot so you should see my efforts next time.

So thanks for looking in and any crits tips etc always welcome.

Happy Days - Taff :D

Hi Taff,

Yes you are correct the engine is all wrong, and also it is not a Merlin XX which went into a Hurri 11c/d, I have the 1/24 scale Mossie and the engines in that kit are correct.

I tried to change the Engine as you have probably seen, but now I am going to make a copy of the mossie engine and throw mine away.

By the way Very nice pit   :yahoo:

Regards

Richard

Nice! Real nice.  :D

Cheers Brian – Like the pancake mate. Looks like a nice kit that one.

Taff

Sure is looking good and the front office is a gem

Keep 'em coming

Hi Peter – Yep quite cuffed with how it turned out. Lot less complicated than your Dump Truck – that just looks dial tastic – I don't know we put all that effort into these pits then go and seal it up so you can't see it – go figure hay!!!!! :mental:

Hi Richard – just caught up with yours – that is true model porn mate   looks like full on miniature engineering can't wait to see the undercarriage going up and down!

The 1/24 Mossie is a gourges kit IMO and the engines our stunning – Yep I have no idea where Trumpeter got their measurements from – it's more Massey Ferguson than Merlin. :D  I have now found the block from the Spit but still looking for the rocker covers so I will seal the nose up now – decision made.

Great-looking work!  Love those wire connections.

Sincerely,

Mark

Cheers Mark – Yep I left them nice and long so I could trim them down to fit – It worked quit well.

Thanks for looking in and commenting guys

Oi.

This is the Trumpeter kit? It comes with a completely sealed engine .. bay? Thing? No removable cowlings?! :( Yet they supply an engine and.. well other stuff. I don't see the logic! In fact the logic hurts my face very much. Well.

What you're doing looks great, especially the cockpit weathering.

Okay Guys – Managed to squeeze some time in this weekend in between wife's ever increasing jobs list. :hmmm:

First up remembered to take a picture of my efforts at repairing the top of the nose. Had to do lots more rubbing back than I wanted too, to get rid of the step. So plenty of rubbing then spry on Mr Surface then more…… Blahhh Blahhh…… :blah:  you know how it goes! – Then having to re-scribe the detail back on. This is my second attempt at doing this and I have to say not sure I will ever enjoy it – better than when I did the Sea Fury so sposse the practice will help! And boy do I need it!!!!

021-Hurricane-IID_zps3a6d3ded.jpg

Started to sort some of the other details and bits. Looking at the exhausts – Here I added some detail in by masking off with two thin bits of  tape where the weld seem would be. I painted on some Mr Surface 1000 and when it was nearly dry just pushed the paint about dented it with the thin end of a sculpting tool. Also made the mouth up from tin foil from some tea candles

022-Hurricane-IID_zpse0fcb700.jpg

This shows the kit part with my one. Then there where two! This has had light spray of Aluminium Primer so I can see where it need a bit more filling and tweaking

At the other end of the plane started with the tail rudder. I cut out the trim tab so I could off set it. Also added the actuator horns from the PE set – these where a bit fiddly. I replaced the flat bit of PE with a thin bit of Brass Rod plus added a couple of blobs of supper glue to the ends to give it a more 3D shape. Also there is what looks like a bit of canvas cover where the rod goes into rubber. This was made from punching out a couple of small circles from tape then piercing this with the thin rod.

023-Hurricane-IID_zps49936b28.jpg

Next moved onto the starting the wheel well. First job was to open up the pilot wheels up viewing holes. These got drill cut then final shape finished of with some thin files. I will add the glass in later, once its painted and weathered. After this was finished I then removed all the moulded bits and marked up where the PE will go. Also rubbed all the detail of the emergency air tank. Then It was a case of sticking all the PE in and on. The air tank was a bit of a PIA but got there in the end.

024-Hurricane-IID_zps8b5f4415.jpg

You can see here where I have drilled for some wires and also a very rough shape for the air tubes. Now I have these roughed out and sized I will try and make a neater pair,

Whilst doing these bits I noticed that I had missed some bits that need to go on the bottom of the firewall – Instructions who needs uhm? (ME!!) :BANGHEAD2: .

Looking at this I think would do more damage trying to remove the existing So I just stuck the PE over the top. The positive is it does look a bit more 3D – might need some heavy weathering to help hide. Then you think uhm!     is this not meant to be silver DOH :BANGHEAD2:  So I will have to mask it off and spray it. One step forward Two Back

025-Hurricane-IID_zps5dcb4236.jpg

Also there is what looks like a heating pipe that goes in here. All the picture I have show this as ribbed but Trump made theirs smooth. So out with the thinnest wire I could find. Stuck one end with a little bit of supper glue then wrapped it around. This was then given a liberal coat of floor polish to hold it. Next I gave it a coat of Mr Surface to try and blend it together. Bit of Ali Primer to see – looking at the pic will need to give it a bit more Mr Surface in some places.

026-Hurricane-IID_zps85ddf87b.jpg

Okay folks – that's all for this one - not massive but it is all progress so till next time happy modelling.

Hope you enjoyed and any comments crits always welcome

Cheers Taff :D

Yep that right mate – At this scale Trump missed a trick IMO.

But think they really on the modeller to chop the kit about to suit what they are doing. Then looking at there Merlin It would need a lot to bring it in line – I think Airfix did a far better job in this area.

Ya hay he's back – watch out for them pesky squirrels Phill they'll have your nuts in a bag and scarper before you know it!!!!! :wicked:

And yep you right it is a nice bit of plastic! This is my first venture into the world of Trumpeter with this one and so far I'm still smiling.  And got to say if I can get the finish any where near yours I will be a very happy chappy!

So seeing you managed to row your way back down the Limpopo does this mean we will see more plastic abuse with the Crusader? I do hope so, been waiting for ages to see that one fly.

Back with some up date soon - Taff :D
