Eli Raphael Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 I think the interior was done in FS36251? Dave, Thierry?
Dave Roof Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 I think the interior was done in FS36251? Dave, Thierry? 36231 is actually the correct color. Personally, I prefer Tamiya XF-19 with an oil wash of Raw Sienna, then a dry brush with Model Master enamel 36375 for my cockpits.
petrov27 Posted June 25, 2013 Author Posted June 25, 2013 Thanks for the info on the pit color - I dont have any dark Gull gray 36231 but I do have light gull so maybe I will use that and then give a dark wash as Dave suggests.

If there is anything else you need help with, just post here or drop me a line. There is an A-6E (it's about a 20 minute drive) here locally and I photographed and measured it when I assisted Kinetic with their kit. While it is a different version, most of the airframe details were the same for both variants. The only thing I can't really help with is the cockpit. The pit in the aircraft is gutted and the museum won't open the canopy to see what is left in there! Dave
otis252 Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 Hey Dave, hope all is well. I'm guessing you're talking about the A-6E that used to be at NAS Atlanta? Where did they move it to and what happened to the F-14, F-18, A-4, and E-2 that used to be over by the NAS Main Gate? Chuck
Rob Colvin Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 Those birds are at the museum site off Atlanta Rd just down from the Navy gate....My brother turned up a pic of an A-6a and the interior appeared as all black, perhaps the film was bad....maybe it was the prototype...either way it could be worth looking into.
Eli Raphael Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 It would be nice if you posted a set of profiles where showing what to delete on the kit's wings and fuselaje in order to do an accurate A version.

I will, but not in this Gentleman's build thread. I'll start another thread later this week, or early next. I'm in the process of drawing decals for Marine and Navy Intruders and the profiles will be used in the instruction sheets.
Daywalker Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Great stuff so far, I'll be watching this one too! Where did you find this kit for sale? I have looked around but haven't found anyone listing them yet.
TimW Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Just got one of these....would like to start, but the seats are apparently for a later mark of A-6? Unless they backdated the A-6As in 1972. Grrr. Tim W.
Rob Colvin Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 I have been messing around with mine a bit........THe wings, rudder, horizantils are together. The airbrake boxes, fuselage formers, and intakes are together.....a bit of filling here and there and she might be worth a pic. The pit is together and I need to paint it....I honestly thought the GR5s would be along in short order along with intake and exhaust fans. O'well that has kind of held me up...no big deal back to phantoms and tomcats and few other strays...F4u4...those will keep me busy unitl the parts are out.. great job thus far...the bird is large and incharge lol.
petrov27 Posted July 11, 2013 Author Posted July 11, 2013 Hard to say how much aftermarket there will be for this one; hoping for the usual suspects to produce stuff but fairly quiet so far. That is vs. the HK B-17 where I am pretty sure there has been aftermarket available before the kit was generally released lol. Slowly having progress on my build - taking me forever to finish the pit. Hope to get more pics up in a day or two. Yep, definately need GRU5s if doing the A version; not sure when or if they were retrofitted; I believe most remaining A versions were updated to E in the early 70s - maybe thats when they all got the GRU7s?
csavaglio Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Looking good so far. Its nice to see a brand new kit being dug into. I have pics of the A-6. I'm pretty sure I have cockpit photos but I can't remember how much was in there and what version it is. I can take a look after work and see. C
csavaglio Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 I have a handful of pics of the exterior and wheel wells, but the pics of the cockpit were through the pretty dusty and weathered canopy since it sits outside. I believe it's an E. Chris
Nic C.D. Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 How does the kit build? Is it as good as it looks? Hope to see another update on the kit! Does anyone know when the E would be available? Nic
